  • Gag Rule-1836

    While slavery was being discussed, people grew tired of talking about it. The gag rule made it so slavery wouldn't be discussed. This kept the nation together.
  • Wilmont Provisio

    This bill aimed to outlaw slavery in territories taken from Mexico. The bill passed in the House of representitives but was defeated in the senate thus causing a division in Congress. Although, not a sucess it led to the formation of the Free Soil Party.
  • Compramise of 1850

    This bill was passed in 1850 and it has kept the nation together. It satisfied both sides by making California a free state and Washington DC as a slave state
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    While slaves escape to the north, people were losing slaves thus spreading the nation apart. The Fugitive Slave Act allowed slave owners to retrieve thier slaves by making northeners re capture slaves. It also put the northeners into jail who helped the slaves escape.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This bill made it for residents to vote to decide an issue. Fortunately the bill wasn't passed. if it was they would get rid of the Misouri Compramise.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    At the election of 1855, there were moe people against slavery than for slavery. Anti slavery settelers boycotted and made a government on thier own.
  • Violence in congress

    While violence was spreading in Kansas there was also violence in congress. There were speeches hade made fun of the pro slavery of kansas. This led to violence and itwas called 'the bleeding summer".
  • The election of 1860

    This slowly took the country apart. This was the debate over Lincon and Douglass. Lincon got elected but when he did, the southners weren't happy about it.
