    The Grand Tour is a tour of Europe, which in the 18th century was formerly undertaken by young men of upper class. The Grand Tour is a a big part of tourism in todays society as Europe is a popular continent for people of all cultures to travel to, therefore the guides of the tour make it the most memorable experience as possible.

    The industrial revolution was the time period between approximately 1760 and 1840; where machines, chemical manufacturing and iron processes were introduced into society. The industrial revolution was a major turning point in our history, and it impacted on the world of tourism in that population started to boost therefore people wanted to discover new places.

    The first ever offical steam ship was built in 1783 in France. The ship was built by Marquis Claude de Jouffroy and colleagues, in an attempt to improve their previous ship. Steam ships are amongst other most commonly used tools for toursim. ie motorcars, trains etc. However, ships can be used to for overseas/international travel, unlike a motor vehicle or train.

    Thomas Cook
    Thomas Cook was a British man who had the aspiration of becoming the first official commercial excursion leader/tour guide. His idea to offer excursions came to him while walkong from Market Harborough to Leicester, in order to atten a meeting of the Temperance Society. Tour guides contribute greatly to toursim in today's society.

    aviation
    Aviation is a major contribuor to Australian and international tourism. Aviation was first introduced in 1873 and has since been one of the main reasons as to why interstate, national and international travel is possible. Availabilty of internatioal transport before aviation was very minimal nor was it very safe or time saving. ie a trip to Europe from Australia, via plane, is faster and usually a lot safer than travelling by boat.

    The first ever offcial motor car was invented by Karl Benz in 1886. Since the 1880's, motor cars have developed in style, range, and safety tremendously. These are a big part of the tourism industry as they are a suitable and more common tool of transportation.

    Pilgrimage toursim is where religious people go on a "spiritual journey" so to speak. This is often to seek a new journey, view holy cities and to experience holy sites. This still considered part of tourism in today's society.

    The New York Stock Exchange was delayed after the first plane crashed into the World Trade Centre's North Tower. The trading day for that day was cancelled after the second plane crashed into the South Tower, as well as the NADAQ trading. This deeply affected the tourism industry in that New York became even more iconic and monumental for future travellers.

    Global Financial Crisis

    The Global Financial Crisis is considered to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930's. This therefore impacted on the tourism in a negative way, as no one had money and furthermore couldn't afford to travel.
