    First came onto the music stage in 1926 where the term came from 'popular music'. Pianos are becoming the main music instrument for the genre with Jazz becoming the most popular

    Elvis Presley emerges and becomes the first 'Rock' star. Quickly being referred to as the 'king of rock and roll'. He later became the best selling solo artist in the history of pop music.
    In 1957 the start up of the Beatles, the Quarrymen was formed with Paul and John, their opening performance was unsuccessful infront of a promoter Carroll Lewis.

    Pete Best joins the Beatles becoming their drummer. The group then started their 48-night show in Hamburg's Bruno Koshmider's Indra Club
    First female vocalist Patsy Cline releases her first song adapting to the change in the market

    Michael Jackson releases first solo hit, 'Ben' which reached number 1 for one week in USA and eight weeks at number 1 in Australia. The song was also the theme tune for a film of the same name helping with its sales and popularity

    To date it has sold 65 million copies the highest ever

    The movie and song 'My Heart will go on' became a hit and helped to grow the market for boy bands such as The Backstreet Boys.

    First mainstream Rapper Marchall Mathers (Eminem) releases 'The Slim Shady LP' and later that year won an Oscar for 'Lose Yourself' from the film '8 Mile'. He is the first rapper to win an Oscar with few others able to repeat his feat to date
