    The GE "Octagon" was created by Ernst W. Alexanderson in 1928 and the mechanical television receiver was built for a 48-line television. Also, it was first created in Schenectady, New York.

    The first set that was ever made was produced by Western Televison Co. in Chicago in 1929. It uses a 45 line disk, with triple interlace.Also, the Western Television was the first company to produce a commercial Television reciever.

    The Baird Model "C" uses a 30-line mechanical television receiver using a spinning Nipkow disc and a modulated neon lamp. This magnificent machine was created by Baird, John Loggie in London in 1929

    This piece of history for Television was created in Britian and created by John Loggie the same person who created the 1928 Baird Model "C". Also, the 30 line images did not take up the entire "screen", but were in fact 6cm high and 2cm wide. This is the reason why this was the most popular selling T.V. of its time

This was a revulutionary for all of Russia and set the ball moving for advances in new technology.     In 1951 Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz negotiate about a contract with CBS to establish a television show called I Love Lucy. This was a major impact on television because this show was very important during this time period.

    Bitzer and Gene Slottow, and graduate student Robert Willson. This invention would set forth more inventions to be created for televisions.

    In 1970 The Public Broadcasting System network is established. This is extremely important because this group/organization would be the reason behind why we have public broadcasting for television today.

    In 1972 half the televisions in homes across America are color sets. This is extremely important because it shows how everyone is converting to new colored televisions. Also, soon everyone will have a colored television in their homes as time progresses.

    In 1975 Sony's Betamax video recorder goes on the U.S. market for 1300$. More than 25,000 units sell in the first
    year of its release date. A one-hour cassette tape sells for $16. This shows that at this time that this system was valued item to have based on its price.
  • Ted Turner's Cable News Network debuts

    In 1980 Ted Turner's Cable News Network debuts airing 24 hour national news reporting and 1.7 million subscribers. Also, this is important because Ted Turner's Cable News Network is very well known throughout the United States.
  • HDTV

    In 1981 HDTV is demonstrated in United States by NHK, Japan's government-owned broadcasting service, at the
    Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers meeting in Los Angeles. This shows that they are trying to make the quality of television better to satisfy needs and wants of the consumer.
  • Fox Broadcasting is established

    in 1985 Fox Broadcasting is established. This date in time is very important because from here on out Fox will only be getting more and more recognition. Also, today Fox is one of the most successful broadcasting stations across America.
  • Cartoon Network opens

    In 1992 Carton Network opens, fueled by Ted Turner's acquisition of Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. This impacts televisions because Cartoon Network is a well known network around the United States.
  • Anticipating HDTV,

    In 1993 America is anticipating HDTV. The release of HDTV will set the bar high for better quality of television and will raise the prices tremendously.
  • Viacom acquires Paramount Communications

    Viacom acquires Paramount Communications for $10 billion and they also aquire Blockbuster Video for $8.4 billion. Paramount is very well known for making movies rather than television, however, they are still very well known. Also, Blockboster Video is although they are out of business due to Netflix was very important during its time of existence.
  • 98% of America Households have one or more T.V.s

    This is extremely important in Television history because back in the past there was only 4% that had a t.v. in their households. However, now that there is 98% of t.v.s in America it shows how important t.v. is to American culture
  • Twenty CBS'-owned stations are fined

    Twenty CBS'-owned stations are fined $550,000 by the FCC after a "wardrobe malfunction" at the superbowl in 2004. This is important because this has been the first time that something this bad happened at a major event.
  • Time-Warner/AOL offers telephone service

    Time-Warner/AOL offer telephone service is important because now a television company is providing telephone service. Then later on in 2005 Time-Warner providees internet access to their television shows live from the internet.
