    As immigration of people would arrive in the U.S, worry grew their values were not up to part. This concern was addressed by Horace Mann, suggesting to establish "common schools". These common schools would educate the youth from different religions and walks of life to find a common in each other. for this idea to work children needed to attend school regularly. For that Compulsory attendance laws were created. Forcing parents to send children to school or the law would follow
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    A movement started by young children from four states to end the injustice towards students like them simply for being African American. This moment was bigger than ever imagined. It was the beginning of the civil rights movement before it was even imagined. Thanks to these children the law was passed that prohibited schools from separating students for their race
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    An act was created to aid the inequality in education towards underprivileged and/or disabled students. Grants were at hand for states to establish these programs. Unfortunately, these programs did not have many regulations towards the use of the funds nor was it shown to improve the education of the students attending it
  • PARC and Mills

    PARC and Mills
    These cases are very important for special education.
    PARC was responsible for the agreement that parents must be involved in the educational placement decisions and disputes.
    MILLS was in charge of protecting kids from being expelled or alienated for having a disability in the District of Columbia public schools
  • Congressional Investigation

    Congressional Investigation
    A while after PARC and MILLS,an investigation by congress took afoot and found that more than 8 million children did not have the proper special education they required.Even worst 1.75 million of those children were not receiving educational services at all. Because of this findings a legislation was introduced in Congress which intelled the right to education for all handicapped children law.

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    Enacted Public Law 94-142 in 1975, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Put in place so all children with disabilities have an education, and hold accountable the State and educational agencies to provide the education needed. It also focused on keeping standards to assure the children and their parents were protected.
  • Disabilities Education Improvement Act

    Disabilities Education Improvement Act
    Although it was renamed many times before the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act was amended significantly in 2004. This specific time it was changed to The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 and is known as IDEA 2004.   • Every Student Succeeds Act

    Every Student Succeeds Act
    When the Elementary and Secondary Education Act became the No Child Left Behind Act it helped with all the complaints regarding accountability and the important requirements for qualified teachers.
