    Marconi and the first Radio Signals
    Marconi is credited with inventing the first Radio, and sending and recieving the first Radio signals. Nobody really knows for sure if he was the one who actually sent/recieved the first radio signals or if his good public relations led him to be credited as the first. Regardless he is honored with the title anyways.
  • The First Human Voice Transmitted through radio

    Canadian scientist Reginald Aubrey Fessenden's voice was the first to be transmitted over radio. Fessenden and his assistants and wife sent out a 'Christmas Concert' to several ships out at sea Singing 'O Holy Night' and reading several bible verses.

    The Audion Tube was an invention of Frenchman Lee De Forest. The Audion tube had the ability to amplify sound and is important in radio history for being the first device to do so.

    In 1909 Charles David Harold constructed the first broadcasting station. This station would later beome KCBS.
  • Sinking of the Titanic

    Sinking of the Titanic
    In 1912 the Titanic sank, but the use of radio on the ship saved many lives. After leaving port the radio is the only communication the ship has , so if it weren't for radio nobody would have been aware of the ships sinking and no rescue ships would have been sent to save passengers.

    Harold Power and his company AMRAD were the first to produce a continuous broadcast. They were the first company to broadcast every day, and all from Tufts University.

    KDKA first named 8XK was the first commercial radio station available widely to the public. Despite its age it is still around and operating today and hosts a variety of talk shows.

    Operating a radio station proved to be an expensive business, and some stations were having troube with financing. In 1922 WEAF broadcasted the first radio commercial advertising the Queensboro Companies aprtment complexes. Radio commercials soon became popular, as people bagan to realize the money making potential in radio commercials.

    In the late 1920's televisions became commercially available to the public, and since that time have become increasingly popular. As television became more and more popular many Radio shows began to switch to TV and soon Radio was no longer the main medium for family entertainment.

    Little Orphan Annie became a popular radio show in the 1930's and 1940's (the 'Golden Age' of Radio) and told the tales and misadventures of a little Orphan girl. This show became popular with the whole family and established radio as a family medium that everyone could enjoy.
  • FM Transmitters

    The FM Transmitter was invented by Major Edwin Armstrong. The FM transmitter became popular with radio stations, particularly those that transmitted music. It soon became the standard that AM stations were primarliy used for talkshows and FM for music stations.

    On January 2001 iTunes 1.0 was released, and would soon become a big hit across the globe. iTunes offers a store where media can be purchased, stored, and enjoyed easily and conveniantly. iTunes is also compatible with Apple products which soon became very mainstream further increasing itunes popularity. The inceasing popularity of iTunes and websites and Apps similar to it led radio to no longer become the main source for listening to music.
