    The creator of Pixar, started out being recruited by a man named George Lucas who was in a group that wanted to push the limits of technology. N.Y.I.T was the school he went to before joining Lucasfilm's Computer Division(were the ones that developed advancing technolgy "for the best tech. in the film industry"

    This time period was when what we know now as Pixar. The starter ups for this company was Edwin Catmull and co-founder who bought the company: Steve Jobs. This was the "evolution" for graphic design and animation of the decade or century for animated films.

    It was said that Lucas's wish for the future was to set the film tech. industry ahead. He dreamed of digital everything: printer, audio, art and etc. Also the most imp. was to dig into computer graphics.

    This movie was the first ever to be created by the animation studio. This is where you begin to see the new features with graphic design. They talk about things they were able to add thanks to technology such as motion blur and more defined characters.

    Jobs obviously has money in this time period where he buys a certain company from Lucas, the Computer Graplic Division.
    He is the ONE who named this sideline/ indepedent company Pixar. Luxo Jr. is nominated for an Ocar and its the first of its time to esp. since it was a computer generated animation.

    This film was special because it invovlved a new program to the graphic design industry. RenderMan is a new software that will be used by the graphic designers and still used to this day for rendering computer graphics.

    Some companies around this time were switching over from 2d to 3d design. They were learning how to graphic design on a computer and animate; so this when graphic designing started to get well known. Advancement in computers led to this whole new creation 3d style on a computer.

    This is when Pixar started to switch over to 3d art/style. I think most movies nowadays use it instead because the motions of characters aare smoother. It took them about 4 years to create their first 3d movie which was the movie we all loved. Toy Story.

    They made this to be an all digital movie,using ALL 3d compuer graphic tools. Because Toy Story was such abig sucesss in the 3d animation field for detaila and etc they set a high very high standard for animation. It has lated them for a decade but now there's others who might just beat them in graohic design esp. with their unique art styles.

    Graphic design involves many things to enrich the once 2d experience so now you can get something even better. Detail is dded so much more because they can do it 20x faster than drawing out every detail and adding it per frame for the movie. On a article I was reading it said that with Pixar's new film they added stuff that wasb't exactly their before. 3D computer graphics, modeling, shading(the computer way) , rendering, overall quality and experience.
