  • Talkies

    Talkies allowed many musical short films to be produced. Vitaphone shorts (warner bros) featured various bands, dancers and vocalists. Sing- along cartoon shorts called screen songs introduced by an animation artist called Max Fleischer. They were made so that the audience felt as though they can sing along to popular songs by following they bouncing ball, like a Karaoke.
  • St. Louis Blues

    St. Louis Blues
    Blues singer Bessie Smith appeared in a two-reel short film called St, Louis Blues. They featured dramatized performance of that hit song. this was followed up by numerous other musicians at this time.
  • Cartoons

    Cartoons
    During the early 1930's cartoons featured numerous popular musicians performing their hits on camera in live action segments in cartoons. This was also popular in the early animated films (Walt Disney) - Silly symphonies shorts and fantasia. They featured several interpretations of classical music and were built around the music themselves.

    Soundies were musical films that included dance numbers similar to later music videos.
  • Louis Jordan

    Louis Jordan
    In the mid 1940s Louis Jordan mad eshort films to accompany his songs. Some of them were spliced together to create the feature film Lookout Sister. These were often refered to the ancestors of music videos.
  • Tony Bennett

    He claims to have created the first music video in his autobigrphy. This is because he was filmed walking along the Serpentine in Hyde Park, London 1956. This clip then went on to be set to his song "Stranger in Paradise"

    Hard Day's Night was The Beatles first feature film, directed by Richard Lester. The film was shot in black-and-white and presented as a mock documentary with comentary in-between songs.

Since then YouTube has developed into a well rounded social networking platform. This is due to its wide range of content.
