    Charter of 1732
    The Charter of 1732 is a doc. that delared GA to be an official colony. King George II granted the document. GA was founded for 3 main reasons: charity, economics, and defense. The charter prhohibited slavery and alcohol. Lawyers, Catholics, and Blacks were banned from GA at first. 21 trustees were put in charge of GA. The 21 trustees couldn't own land, get paid for being a trustee, or hold political office.

  • Founding of Savannah

    Founding of Savannah
    Savannah was the 1st city founded in GA by James Olgerthorpe. He arrived on the ship Anne. Tomochichi allowed him and his men to land on Yamacraw Bluff. They communicated with translators.

    Founding of Ebenezer
    The Salzburgers founded the city of Ebenezer. They left Salzburg, Germany because they were kicked out by the Edict of Expulsion.

    Founding of Darien
    The Highland Scots founded the city of Darien. They came to Georgia because they were known as ferocious warriors, and they could help protest the colony from the Spanish in Florida.
  • Battle of Bloody Marsh

    General James Oglethorpe led the colonists in the battle with the Spanish. It resulted in a victory for the colonist with help from the Highland Scots. After this battle, the Spanish never tried to invade GA again and the colonists were able to regain their confidence.

    Georgia Becomes A Royal Colony
    The malcontents were always unhppy with the trustees because: they couldn't have alcohol, no slaves were allowed, and because women couldn't inherit land. Once Georgia became a royal colony, governors were put in charge of Georgia. Their names were: John Reynolds, Henry Ellis, and James Wright.
