    The first idea of film is contributed to a bet made Edward Muybridge that when a horse is running at one point all of it's hooves are off the ground. It was proven by the placement of cameras along the track that took pictures as the horse passed. When strung together the picture gives the illusion of movement.

    Etinne Marey, Invented a gun that took 12 pictures per second. these pictures could be strung together into a short film. This was the precursor to the film recorder.
  • The Kinetascope Parlor

    The Kinetascope Parlor
    The first inclining to public showings of film. Was a single person veiwing of rapidly moving pictures. It was actually kept at single person veiwing for the reason of expense.
  • Louis and Auguste Lumiere showed first film

    perfecting and produced the first real film camera. showed 16 second films of no real story or substance. the first ever movie was of a train heading towards the screen.
  • The Great Train Robbery

    The Great Train Robbery
    First sucessful film that had a story and uniquness. Was twelve minutes long and was sucessful do to the wild west violence. It was made and produced by Edwin S. Porter.
  • Cartoon

    The first Cartoon is made, it was called " The Humorous Phases of Funny Faces." The movie was 3 minutes long, and had only two characters, a clown and a dog.
  • Nickelodeons

    These were short 30 minute films that were played in the cities. named because of their cost at a nickel or 5 cents. Most were films by Pathe.
  • MPPC

    MPPC
    The nine major movie companies came together to form this monopoly. They were determinded to dominate the business. They practiced rough handed treatment of independant movie makers.
  • Southern California

    Southern California
    With the monopoly of the film business by the MPPC many film makers moved to the west coast for the free reign and the good lighting. Also it's closeness to the boarder of mexico made a nice escape route from the rough handling of the MPPC.
  • United Artists

    United Artists
    Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, D. W. Griffith, and Mary Pickford found the United Artists. formed to escape the tight restrictions of the studio system.
  • Film in the Air

    Film in the Air
    The first in flight film was in a repurposed WW1 bomber. the film was the "Lost World" a 30 minute film. the flight was near London.

    The Warnar Brother's Jazz Singer was the first movie to ever have talking as its sound with the only line: " wait a minute, wait a minute, you ain't heard nothing yet."
