  • Thomas Hobbes

    Thomas Hobbes
Focused on imagination which would lead others to link imagination to creativity. A quote from chapter 1 page 9 is; "Recognized how important imagination was in human thought and planning, and how constructive it could be, an idea that reappeared as a starting point of discussions during the Enlightenment."
  • Adam Smith

    Adam Smith
Wanted to create a social science to focus on human behavior. This would allow Mathus to create the social science and set the tone for Darwin and Galton in further years to expand on their beliefs that creativity exists in each person.
  • Thomas Malthus

    Thomas Malthus
Helped bridge the ideas of Smith, Darwin and Galton through social science.
  • Charles Darwin

    Charles Darwin
Darwin focused on natural selection and adaptation. The quote on page 11 describes his efforts. "Darwin worked out the processes underlying natural selection that several basic characteristics of creativity were brought into sharp focus, especially its value in adaptation."
  • Francis Galton

    Francis Galton
Worked with Darwin and took his beliefs and focued on the measurement aspect of natural selection and adaptation. Page 12 describes some of his biggest contributions to the research of creativity in the quote of; "was the operational definition of broad evolutionary diversity as manifested in specific individual differences that could be measured."
He focused on individual differences which means that everyone possesses creativity.
  • Lewis Terman

    Lewis Terman
Terman used Galton's thinking of measurement and focused on the IQ aspect. Page 14 states, "Required identifying individual differences in ability and bestowing on children with high native ability (IQ) appropriate educational abilities." With this he felt that creativity is an important part of a person's IQ.
  • Catherine Cox

    Catherine Cox
Page 14 states, "believing creativity to be an integral part of intelligence." She, Terman and Galton all belived the same ideas about intelligence and she expanded on the resrach behind it. She found that high intelligence is not the only factor leading to creativity but motive, effort and confidence also play an important factor.
