    Fredrick W Taylor defined the procedure of scientific management. They are 1. Study your employees and test ways of how tasks can be improved. 2. Take these improvements and turn them into minimum standards for preforming the job. 3. Cautiously pick employees that are qualified to meet these standards and train them. 4. Figure out the minimum pay for performing this task, then pay slightly more. (Jones 2014)
  • Andrew Carnegie

    This man built himself up from nothing and became a very rich individual. He was very ambitious and had a keen eye for realizing trends that were going on. (Jones 2014)
  • Ford Company Created

    Henery Ford establishes a company that will produce automobiles. This is the beginning of the car craze! (Ford n.d.)
  • Moving Assembly line is created.

    A moving assembly line for automobiles is created by Ford's engineers, This helps workers become more efficient. (Ford n.d.)
  • Wage Standards Recognized

    Ford recognizes that wages should be higher for his employees and also that they should work less. If employed by Ford, employees recieve $5 per 8 hour shift. (Ford n.d.)
  • Mary Parker Follett

    Mary Parker Follett
    Mary Parker Follett is considered to be the mother of Management thought. She suggested that managers should allow employees to contribute to the organization in other ways than just being employed there. She was also a huge believer in "cross-functioning" meaning that employees could work in several different parts of a organization (Jones 2014)
  • Bureaucracy Theory

    Max Weber's work on bureaucracy is published. In total there are 6 thoughts. Weber believed that these could help management have a more control over employees. (Bureaucracy n.d)
  • Principles of Management

    Henri Fayol develops 14 principles of management. He thought that these were very important for increasing the efficiency of management. (Jones 2014)
  • Hawthorn Studies Began

    The Hawthorn Studies were done to test how the environment affects the employees. It was concluded that physical conditions were not the issue with employee moral however just that someone took an interest in them. (Hawthorn 2008)
  • Human Relation Movement

    Managers should receive behavioral training so that employees will be more likely to cooperate with what the corporation wants (Human n.d)
  • Great Depression

    The Great Depression lasted several years and had major effects on business and managment skills. Managers had to be more resourceful because they were always at risk of losing their jobs.
  • Management Science Theory

    This uses quantitative techniques to help managers amplify companies resources. (Jones 2014)
  • Organizational Development

    These are steps that want organizations to 1. plan 2. have it company wide 3. manage it from the top and 4 use behavoriol science knowledge (What n.d)
  • Socialtechnical Systems Theory

    This theory concludes that employees should work in groups rather than individually. There are 4 parts to this theory. (Socio n.d)
  • Cheaper by the Dozen

    Cheaper by the Dozen
    The Gilbreths agreed with Fredrick W Taylor and took his theories even further. There was a movie created about their family because they tried to live their own lives based on these principles. (Jones 2014)
  • Hiearchy of Needs

    Hiearchy of Needs
    Maslow created a hiearchy of needs that help emloyers and managers realize that their employees have needs that have to be fulfilled. He concludes that if they are fulfilled then an employee will be committed to a company. (Maslow n.d)
  • Motivation and Hygine Theory

    This theory is based off of Maslow's heirarchy of needs however it is more geared towards a business atmosphere. Frederick Herzberg says that employees need motivation (good benifits) as well as worth while work to be happy. (Two n.d)
  • Theory X

    This theory believes that workers are not good. Most will do as little as they can possibley do and hate working. Managers should create strict rules and regulations that employees should follow. (Theory n.d)
  • Theory Y

    This theory thinks that employees are good natured and will want to do what is good for the company. Managers are encouraged to help employees with being able to reach the companies goals.! (Theory n.d)
  • Open Systems View

    This system will take a resource (like cotten) from an outside environment, create a good (like a t-shirt) and then send it back to where it was taken to be sold.
  • Contingency Theory

    The idea that companies and control their systems beased on characteristics of an outside environment in which the organization operates. (Jones 2014)
  • Managerial Grid

    Robert Blake and Jane Mouton create a management grid that regards different management styles. There are two behaviors that appear on each axis concern for people is on the verticle and concern for production is on the horizontal. There are 5 different leader types that a person can be based on this model. (Blake n.d)
  • Learning Organization Theory

    This is based off the thought that if a company can change itself to shape its own future. There must be a realization that this is a complex company and needs a vision of what it would like to do. (learning n.d.)
  • Ethics

    During this time business eithics really started to be thought about. Questions about if something was right or wrong began to be asked and it started to be more important that companies were more ethical (Jones 2014)
  • Recession Hits America

    One of the world's greatest recession affects several businesses and upper level managers and all employees. Managers during this time must be careful to follow instructions by the book of the company. Several companies had to get rid of employees.
