    Assistive technology has been defined and integrated into legislature over the past 30 plus years. Assistive Technology has spanned a range of lews being passed in the area of education, but also to civil rights for those with disabilities.

    Technology-Related Assistance Act for Individuals with Disabilities 1988
    The Technology-Related Assistance Act for Individuals with Disabilities 1988 gave speciific funding to states for assistive technology for those with disabilities.     Reauthorization of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004
    The Rauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education of 2004 changed the wording used previously by the reauthorization of IDEA in 1997 to say requires Assistive Technology instead considers Assistive Technology (Mittler, 2007).
