    On this day, Cristobal Colon (Christopher Columbus), reached the Americas. Although he didn't really discover them, this was important because it marked the beginning for trans- Atlantic conquest and settlement.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    On this day, the Congress came together. They decided that the thirteen colonies would have the right to be free and independent states. This event was important in history because it gave everyone life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It also gave each individual state the right to do what they want to improve upon themselves.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    This day marked history for the United States because Thomas Jefferson's request to buy this territory from France was approved. It was bought fro $15 million, three cents per acre. By buying this new territory, America doubled in size and significantly impacted U.S citizens.
  • Lewis and Clark's expedition

    Lewis and Clark's expedition
    Lewis and Clark left St. Louis where they had stayed for the winter and started their journey. This journey was petitioned by Thomas Jefferson who has just bought the Louisiana Territory. Lewis and Clark were hired to discover the western portion of this new land and make a practical route through it. While doing so, they also had to discover new species and make maps. This event was important because it improved Louisiana's economy and brought more people to explore this area.

    This event is know as the "Trail of Tears" because this is when Native Americans were forced to move from their homelands to a new territory. Beginning in 1831, Native American tribes started to be pushed out of their homes and westward because the whites wanted the land. While waited to be relocated, they were kept in camps and many died. This event was important because it marked the deaths of many Indians and ignites war between Americans and Indians,

    This day marked history because carpenter James Marshall discovered gold. He was building a sawmill in northern California, when he noticed something that looked shiny by the American river. People who heard of the miraculous news, started pouring into California in high hopes of find gold. This was beneficial to California because the huge migration caused economic growth.
  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    The Attack on Fort Sumter
    Confederates were determined to steal the Fortress from Lincoln, but he would not surrender. The Confederates then ringed the harbor with heavy guns and opened fired on Fort Sumter. After 34 hours, it was surrendered. This was an important date in history because this event was the start of the civil war.

    The Attack on Pearl Harbor
    This day marked history for the U.S. On this day, at 7;55 A.M., Japanese airplanes attacked Pearl Harbor. Within a few hours the Japanese managed to sink or damage all battleships positioned at Pearl Harbor. Over 2,400 Americans were killed.This event was important because it was the start of our war against Japan.

    Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a Dream" Speech
    On this day, Martin Luther King Jr. stood in front of more than 200,000 people and conducted his "I Have a Dream" speech. This speech expressed how King hoped that one day, we would live in a world that people weren't judged by the color of their skin. This event was important because it helped end segregation. Because of him, African American's are treated equally.

    John F. Kennedy's Assassination
    On this day, President Kennedy's life was ended. It happened as he was riding in his convertible, waving to his supporters and suddenly, he was shot twice. He died soon after in the hospital. This event was important because it was a great downfall in history and it surprised everyone. Many of Kennedy's works had been left behind.

    On this day, the world lost "The King of Rock and Roll." Although Elvis Presley had overdosed on drugs several times before, this is not believed to be his cause of death. His heart was said to have failed and they were unable to revive him. This event was important because a great musician died and it shocked many people.

    Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone U.S Release Date
    This day marked history for Harry Potter fans. The original British book "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was released in Britain in 1997. Later on, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' was recreated by Scholastic and released into the U.S on this day. This day was important because it brought Americans joy and entertainment. This was the start of a great series.
  • September 11th, 2001

    September 11th, 2001
    This historic tragedy is the day remembered as the day where terrorists took control of four airplanes with people on board and used them to attack Washington D.C. and New York City. Two planes were crashed into each World Trade Center building, causing them to fall to the ground, and another one was flown into the Pentagon. Fortunately, the last plane didn't make it's destination and instead flew into a field in Pennsylvania. This event was important because it brought Americans together.
