This bill aimed to outlaw slavery in territories taken from Mexico. The bill passed in the House of Representatives but was defeated in the Senate thus causing a division in congress. Although, not a success it led to the formation of the Free Soil Party. -

This was a series of Congressional laws intended to settle the major disagreements between free states and slave states. Douglas succeeded and this plan is now known as the compromise of 1850. -

This law was made in 1854 and it established the territories of Kansas and Nebraska and gave their residence the right to decide wheather to go with slavery or not. -

Dried Scott vs. Sandford
This reached the supreme court in 1856. In 1857, the court ruled against Scott. -

John Brown, the man who murdered proslavery people had a plan. He wanted to make sure slaves fought for freedom, by doing so he planned to take all the US.
