Historical Timeline for Students with Exceptionalities

  • Brown v. Board of Education

Brown v. Board of Education determined that segregation is not equal, deeming it illegal. With the results of this case, parents and other advocates for children with disabilities began to use the ruling to benefit children with exceptionalities. In 1965, based on this landmark case, one of the first legislations was established, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This act provided federal aid to educational organizations to assist in meeting the needs of children with exceptionalities.
