    1/5/12 Hero Question 1
On January 5th, 2012, we began the hero journey process. It started when Ms. Allen asked us a few questions. The first one was someone we considered a hero. When I was about 7 years old, I almost drowned in the pool after bravely diving in. A lifeguard saved me, and for that I was grateful.

    1/5/12 Hero Question 2
Question 2 was one of the reasons I chose abraham lincoln as my hero. The question was if there was anyone we thought that the media wrongly claims to be heros. At first, I was going to chose a professional volleyball player, but decided against it. These people are not really heros. It isn't that they don't do good things, but rather that the things they do ultimately benefit only themselves.. this impacted my choice because a hero should be someone who does something for the greater good
  • 1/5/12 my definition of a hero

1/5/12 my definition of a hero
A hero: /hee-roh/: is defined as someone who takes a risk to protect someone or something from harm, and does this out of selflessness. Also, a hero is someone who does something to benefit not only themselves, but others, and does not ask for anythign in return. This is a reason I chose Lincoln. It is amazing how he fought for unity, and he is probably the most admirable president to me. His acts made an impact on the future of our nation, in a positive way.
  • 1/6/12 Roy Benavides

    1/6/12 Roy Benavides
Today, Ms Allen shared with us the story of Roy Benavides. His story insipired me so much. He kept fighting, even with all the injuries and bullets. And even in the most critical conditions, when he had to get on the helicopter, he helped the dead and his friends first. That is honorable. That is an example of a true hero. He had "a kind of madness to him", but it was courage. It was friday that I decided that Lincoln was who I I would chose for sure. He died for anti-slavery. He is a hero.

Today, we watched Mrs. Simmons and Ms. Allen interview Kristi Quillen, a peace corps volunteer. I thought her story was insipiring, because she struggled to find what she wanted to do with her life, and she ended up in the peace corps, helping people in (costa rica? or was it puerto rico?) either way, she is volunteering her time to better people. And sure, her pay not be amazing, she might be single, but she loves what she does, and is making a difference. She gives more than she takes.
  • 1/17/2012 "Change the World" powerpoint

Today, we watched a powerpoint. It feautured the John Mayer song "Waiting on the World to Change" This song made me angry. I thought it was outrageous, and very passive. My hero for this assignment, did not wait on the world to change. In fact, if he waited on the confederate states to change, we might still have slavery. Like president JFK said.."ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country" if no one takes action, nothing will be achieved.

The badly drawn boy hug video was interesting. I thought it was a good message, to be at peace, and unite as one. Spread the peace, not the hate. And Lincoln tried to unite the nation, even though it resulted in much bloodshed, it was ultimately the best decision.

Today we watched the tuesday muse video which featured tuesday and hudson plaskoff. This changed my view of a hero, because I didn't think that kids that young could be a hero. Those kids really surprised and inspiried me. Although they are young, they took the time to organize a fundraiser for haiti, and they knew that their money would help the haitians effected by the disasters. It amazes me how creative and aware they are of the situation in haiti. Tuesday was so insipring.

We watched the liberty mutual ad about responsibility. The definition of responsibility is to take control and take the blame for your actions, and do your duty to benefit society. There are different ways to describe it. You are responsible for chores. Lincoln was responsible for America. And he took action and not only did his job, but he surpassed expectations.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
In conclusion, the events over January about the hero assignment really changed my view on heros. I was more open, but one thing that remained the same to me was that most athletes are not heros. Over the past few weeks as I've read my book, I have learned more and more about Lincoln, and realized that not all heros are perfect. There are things that hold them back, small mistakes they make, but overall they rise above to take charge and make change.
