  • Jamestown founded

    In 1606 several groups of merchants sought charters to settle in Chesapeake Bay. In 1607 144 settlers sailed up Chesapeake Bay. The colonists named the river the James and their new settlement Jamestown.

    The House of Burgesses was a place where representives were sent from each town to discuss laws. The group was made to allow laws not to go through to England for approval half-heartedly. Its also made to give the colonists a way to be spoken for while maintaning British control firmly.

    The Puritans were leaving England because of dissension among the catholic church since King Henry VIII left the catholic church. For the Sepratists it was the same thing. Execpt for the fact that the Sepratists wanted to leave the church while the Puritans wanted to clean the church of dissent.

    Thomas Hooker founded the town of Hartford.
    Thomas Hartford founded the town because of the way the puritan leaders ran the Mass. colony. Hooker ran his group through miles of wilderness to the place he founded the 2nd Mass. Not only was he dissatified with the way they ran the colony but also the 2nd Mass. had better soil.

    The Act of Toleration was made to grant freedon to everyone in the colony in Maryland. It was made so that the no religion would be made dominant in Maryland. Not only that but it also garunteed that there would be a steady flow of settlers to the colony.

    This was a war that was caused by economic and land disputes between France and Great Britian. Finally Great Britian had had enough so they began war.
