The stock market crashed, marked the beginning of the Great Depression. The DOW bottomed out at 41.22. It was named black friday. It caused a 30 million dollar loss. -
Smoot-Hawley Tariff
This tariff brought taxes to an all time high for America during one of the worst times.When the taxes were raised, the US tried to get money from neighboring countries. -
Dust Bowl
The dust bow was the cause of a great drought in land and the high winds caused the dry soil to create big storms. These storms made the living conditions it resulted in unbearable. -
Major Bank Collapse
The bank of the United States in NY collapsed. $200 million deposits disappear, and bank customers are enraged. -
FDR elected President
FDR won the presidential election by a landslide over Hoover. He gave US citizens a sense of hope and that with him things would get better. -
Unemployment at an all time high
Unemployment rates went from 3.2% in 1929 to 24.9% in 1933 -
21st Amendment
This amendment ratified the 18th which was the ban on alcohol. It's ratification helped the US because people could spend what ever money they had on alcohol which helped the US through taxes, and helped relieve some of the debts. -
FDR's New Deal
The new deal included acts that would help public, agricultural work, and more. It took a while to implement but ultimately helped the US dig themselves up out of the depression
