    -Threatened and beat up Jews and anti-NAZI voters
    -Wore brown shirts, pants and boots
    -Numbered almost 400, 000 by 1932

    Treaty of Versailles
    -The allied nations met to determine the destiny of Germany
    -Germany was not invited to the conference
    -The Big Four blamed Germany for the entire world war
    -Germany had to pay reperations
  • Hitler's joining of the German Workers Party

    Hitler's joining of the German Workers Party
    -Hitler was sent to investigate this group in Munich
    -He gave a speech
    -Was asked to join the group, to which he accepted

    -Hitler held a rally in Munich beer hall and declared revolution
    -He led 2000 men in take over of Bavarian government, but he failed

    -Hitler was charged with treason
    -At his trial he spoke about the NAZI platform and spread his popularity
    -He was sentenced to 5 years in jail, but only served about 9 months
    -In prison he wrote a book "My Struggle"
    -The book sold 5 million copies

    -After he got out of prison, Hitler began talking to large audiences about making Germany a great nation again
    -NAZI Party:
    -1930 = 18% of vote
    -1932 = 30% of vote
    -Hitler becomes Chancellor in 1933
  • Concentration Camps

    Concentration Camps
    -NAZI's began to create these camps to hold political or "enemies" of the regime
    -Camps were unhealthy, cold, and inhumane
    -Were spread across Germany, with the largest, deadliest ones located away from the borders of France
    -The number of camps expanded to 300+ between 1939 and 1942
    -The "emenies" held were; slave labourers, Jews, political leaders, homosexuals, Gypsies, mentally or physically challenged, and criminals
  • Night of The Long Knives

    Night of The Long Knives
    -The NAZI's carried out a series of political murders
    -At least 85 people died, but the death toll may have been in the 100's
    -Hitler began to kill anyone who opposed him, including those in his army or already under his control
  • Ghetto

    Ghetto
    -It was part of the city blocked off for a particualar group; in this case it was for the jews
    -People were forced to wear uniforms, idenification numbers and carry around their identification at all times
    -Living conditions were brutal. In the ghetto of Odrzywol, 700 people were forced into an area previously occupied by 5 families, between 12 to 30 people in each small room. -The jews were not allowed out of the ghetto and food rations were only around 253 calories per jew.

    -Plan to destroy the Jews of Europe.

    -Jews were rounded up under the excuse of a resettlement program and moved East
    -When in reality they were only getting sent to death.
    -Around 8000 people were killed per day.
    -Between 6-8 million Jews were killed
