Britain and France declare war on Germany
Two days after the invasion of Poland, on September 03, 1939, both Britain and France declared war on Germany. Neville Chamberlain had announced at 11:15 AM that the deadline for German withdraw from Poland had expired, and that they were going to take this as an act of war. -
Siege of Warsaw
Warsaw is the capital of Poland. When the Germans were able to take over Warsaw, the Polish people they knew that it meant the end of their defense against Germany.This is the first example of a German “Blitzkrieg,” which is a fighting tactic of lightning quick warfare. -
Munich Pact
An agreement that both Chamberlain and Hitler were the chancellors for. The agreement stated that Germany was allowed to extend its territory into parts of Czechoslovakia where there were mostly German-speaking communities. This land was named, “Sudetenland.” This was an attempt to appease Germany. -
Nazi’s take Czechoslovakia
With German’s taking over of Czechoslovakia, the world now had solid proof that Hitler wanted more than just a ‘greater Germany.’ By doing this, he also broke the Munich Pact. -
Non-aggression Pact
An agreement between Germany and Russia that stated that for the next 10 years, neither country would take military action against each other. This agreement is otherwise known as the Hitler/Stalin Pact. -
Battle of Britain
The Battle of Britain was a battle that lasted from July 10, 1940 to October 31, 1940. It was a battle between the United Kingdom and Germany. The Royal Air Force defended the UK against German Air Force attacks.
