Herman Talmage was a part of the 1946 governor's race. Eugene Talmage died right after being reelected in 1946, so Georgia quickly elected Ellis Arnall. At the same time, Melvin Thomas attempted to take the position because he was the former Lutenant Governor. Later, a group of farmers from south georgia claimed to have fouind ballets that were not with the others. They all had the name Herman Talmage on them. Herman Talmage ended up with the spot as Georgia Governor.

Brown v. Board of Education
The outcome of the Brown v.Board of Education case was a reverse of the Plessy v. Ferguson case. Instead of "separate but equal",the new model was "be together." This allowed for bathrooms,train cars, buses, and other locations to be desegregated. this created a platform for civil rights. -
Rosa Park's story
In Montgomery, AL, Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus when she was asked to by a white man, so she was arrested.n her bravery inpired many African Americans. -
The Georgia general assembly allowed the additon of the confederate flag to Georgia's state flag.

SNCC
The SNCC was a group of students who hosted sit-ins and protests at lunch counters for blacks' rights. Their causes were mainly focussed in Atlanta and Albany. -
Judge William Bootle required UGA to accept both Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter,whon were African American.

The Albany movement was a large movement in an attempt to desegregate all off Albany. 1000 African Americans were arrested for their actions.

Maddox doesn't want to integrate
Lester Maddox turned down a group of black activists from entering his restauraunt even though the law said he was required to let them in. He eventually closed the restauraunt because he dispiaed the law. -
Andrew Young was the first African American from Georgia to be elected into congress since reconstruction. He acted as Georgia's fifth district seat. He was also a member of the SCLC prior to his job in congress.

Maynard Jackson served three terms as the Georgia Governor and he worked in close relation with Andrew Young, who was also a Georgia governor around the same time. Maynard Jackson was the first person to bring the olympics to Atlanta.
