  • Start of the Great Depression in the United States

    The Great Depression was the time period in history of the United States. The Great Depression was caused by inflation caused by the "Roaring Twenties" and the country was pushed further into the Depression when the stock market crashed. This caused many people to lose all the money that they had invested and the money that was the bank as well. The Great Depression forced many people to shut down their businesses. This results in many people losing their jobs.
  • Flood of 1937

    The Flood of 1937, was a flood that occured in the northern part of the midwestern region of the United States. The flood caused levees to break. rivers to overflow, millions of dollars in property damage, and the deaths of many people. The flood occured due to excessive raining that overflowed rivers, streams, and tributaries.This caused major rivers such as the Mississppi River to overflow and run over into nearby farms, buildings, and rivers. The Flood of 1937 was the worst flood in the U.S..

Gallgher the creator of this painting sympathized with the work of miners because his family worked as miners in Pennsylvania. The lithograph depicts the man to be tired, slumped over, and fatigued from work.

There was a scarce amount of food becasue many of the surrounding farmlands were destroyed by the flood waters.

Before the war during the Great Depression, many people were not able to recieve jobs because many businesses had to shut down due to inflation. Those who could get a job were considered lucky becasue they could money to feed their family. The working conditions of the job most of the time were rough and undesirable.
