    Attack on Pickawillany
    The village of Pickawillany was attacked by 240 allied French and Native Americans. They were led by Charles Michel de Langlade. The attack was to drive out the British traders there and in the area.
  • Trading with Native Americans

    Trading with Native Americans
    Britain starts to trade with the Native Americans in Ohio Valley and France notices and starts to get irratated. France shuts down a trading center Britain opened with the permission of the Half King, making the Half King look like a fool. The Half King starts tension with France. Conflict is brewing.

    Half King kills French Ambassador
    The Half King is allied with the French but wants revenge. The Half King tricks George Washington (who is only a colonel at this time) into attacking the French base, and then kills the French ambassador who was already injured.

    Treaty of Paris
    When France lost the war to Britain and the thirteen colonies, New France lost all their land east of the Mississippi River, over half of their territory in the Treaty of Paris. New France was still in North America, and they kept the land until they lost it in the Lousiana Purchase years later.

    The sugar act was a tax put on sugar by the British to pay for the French Indian war. They also put a tax on molasses, and sugar and molasses are the main things the colonists used to make rum, their way of earning money. In addition to this, the British made a law staing that the colonists could not go into the area they won in the French Indian war, even though the colonists were the ones paying the taxes for it.

    The stamp act is the follow-up to the Sugar Act. The Colonists were upset about the Sugar Act, so the British took away the sugar tax and put the tax on stamps. This tax was even worse than the sugar, because it was on anything you send, or write on. In some cases it was very,very expensive. This really got the colonists angry.

    In the Boston Massacre the colonists had been mocking the British and they had been throwing things at the Redcoats. The British fired into the crowd, killing five people. This gave weight to the colonists struggle to be free.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was an episode where the colonists revolted. The Colonists were boycotting British tea so when a shipment of British tea came in, the Colonists threw the tea in the ocean. This was a act of rebellion that really kick-started the rebellion.

    The Declaration of Independence was meant to tell King George that the colonies should be their own free country. In the letter, it states the english should let the colonies be their own country and have their freedom, and why the colonists should be free of English rule.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    This was the turning point in the war. The British army surrendered their arms. General John Burgoyne lost 86% of his army, and their allies did not come. The two colonist armies surrounded the British army and closed together on the British.

    George Washington was the leader of the colonial army. He was elected as the first president of the united states. John Adams was his vice president.
