The British legislation tried ending the smuggling trade of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies. The colonists didn’t like this because they believed it was restricting their trading. -
In 1765 the British Parliament put a direct tax on all materials printed for commercial and legal use in the colonies. The colonists did not like this act because they felt it violated their rights. They boycotted and stopped buying British materials. -
The Declaratory Act stated that the British Parliaments taxing authority was the same in America as it was in Great Britain. The colonists didn’t like this because they didn’t want to be paying off the debt of the French and Indian war. -
The Townshend act was a series of laws passed by the British government that placed new taxes on the colonists and also took away some freedoms. Obviously, this angered the colonists to a new level. -
The Tea Act did not impose any new taxes on the colonists however it did grant the British East India company tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. The colonists were upset with this because they didn’t think the parliament did not have the right to tax tea. -
The Revolutionary war was fought by the American Colonist against Great Britain. This war had many causes but mainly the intolerable taxes. The war starts April 19th, 1775 with the infamous, Shot heard around the world.
