Freddie Reinthaler, The Necklace.

  • "With no dowry, no prospects, no way of any kind of being met."

This is explaining that the girl in "The Necklace" had no money and wouldn't have any money.
  • She excitedly tore open the envelope and pulled out a printed card bearing these words:

"The Minister of Education and Mme. Georges Ramponneau beg M. and Mme. Loisel to do them the honor of attending an evening reception at the Ministerial Mansion on Friday, January 18."
  • She wasn't at all conviced. "No....There's nothing more humiliating than to look poor among a lot of rich women."

She is showing by saying this that she is afraid of showing herself in front of rich women because she is poor.
  • "I...I...I don't have Mme. Forestier's necklace."

She lost the necklace in the cab most likely. They were also aghast when they heard that she had lost the necklace.
  • "We must take steps to replace that piece of jewelry."

This is showing that they are willing to spend all their frans even when the girl who lost it is poor just so the owner would have a better life.
  • "Loisel appeared an old women, now."

The owner of the necklace had been cursed for the loss of the necklace and she was also heavy,, rough, harsh, like the poor.
