    The name originated from a First Nation word "Kanata" for village, settlement or land. the british came and asked the first nations what the land was called, but the First nations thought they were talking about the town so they said "Kanata" which meant village or town.

    A Band of Metis were traveling to meeting with some traders of the North west Company and they were going to sell stuff to them. They were met by Robert Semple and his group of HBC men. They argued and a gun fight started which Robert semple got killed.

Metis formed provisional government and armed force. North West Mounted Police and volunteers met up with Metis and ended up defeating them.
