    Pearl Harbor was a naval base that we built as a refueling station for our ships.
    It also allowed us to expand our naval base and make it larger, giving us more protection from our enemies.

    She helped to win the Illinois Factory Act which led to her being appointed to be the Cheif Inspector of Factories.
    It kept children safer and stopped them from doing unnecessary work that they never should've been doing anyways

    Alfred T. Mahan urged government officials to up our navy which led to building the USS Maine. When the USS Maine blew up, we assumed it the Spanish which led us to war with them.
    Because of the assumption that the Spanish had deliberately sunk our naval ship, we started a war with them that had eventually helped us expand our empire.

    He commanded the American army to open fire on Spain. His victory let us land in Philippines and win the Spanish-American war.
    It helped us expand our empire into Asia.

    The Panama Canal made travel faster and because it was such a huge accomplishment for us as a country

    Food was unfit for human consumption. Must inspect livestock before slaughter. Inspection of carcass. Slaughter houses and meat packing plants had to be sanitized. U.S. department of Agriculture supervised them.
    It made us consume safe to eat meat instead of meat that rats had touched and could possibly have disease in.

    the 17th amendment let the people vote for their senators.
    It gave us more of a say in how our government is run.

    The Lusitania was a British liner that had been sunken by German U-boats, submarines, killing 128 Americans.
    If Germany hadn't sunken a boat that had American passengers, then we would've sided with the Central Powers instead of the Allies

    It was around April 6, 1917 that the Four MInute Men were created. They were volunteers who spoke about war and how we could help.
    It informed about victory gardens and bond drives, all things that helped us win the war by raising money and saving food.

    Lead by Herbert Hoover. Instead of rationing the food, like other nations had, Hoover declared the 'Gospel of a Clean Plate". Every day of the week, they would take some food group out to save the food to send over seas. They people also started 'victory gardens' that they would set up in certain areas of the town to grow their food and save enough for the soldiers over seas.

    The 14 points was a speech given by President Wilson. He believed that by applying these 14 points, we would be spared from future world wars. The first five were how we could prevent war. 6-13 were boundarie changes. The 14th point was the League of Nations. A group of leaders where they could freely discuss their differences without having to resort to war.

    Took effect January 17, 1920. Drinking alcohol was illiegal unless you had a prescription for whiskey. You couldn't sell it unless you had already restocked it, then you were able to sell it until it ran out.
    It tried to right our wrongs and make good morals for us.

    Womans Suffrage
    Introduced to US by Susan B. Anthony. The 19th amendment was ratified June 4, 1919. Granted women more rights and made us more equal by granting us the right to vote and run for office.
    It took women 72 years to be privileged this right.
