He was Admiral of the U.S. Navy. He urged government officials to build up American naval power so they'd be able to compete with other powerful nations. He made our country the world's third largest naval power which later helped in war. -

The De lôme letter was a private written letter by the Spanish Minister to the U.S. A cuban rebal stole it and gave it to the New Youk Journal. They publised it and many Americans were furious because this letter insulted there president.This was part of the reason of going to war. -
U.S.S. Maine sinking
The U.S.S. Maine was sent to Cuba by president McKinley to bring home Americans in danger by the fighting and to protect American property. The ship blew up in the habor of Havana and more than 260 men died. The Journal's headline clamed the Spanish suck the U.S.S. Maine. This was America's last straw and we joined in the war. -
Emilio Aguinaldo
He believed the U.S. had promised independence. Him and his follows vowed to fight for freedom. Which in 1899 they did, starting the Philippe-American War later leading to independence. -

Muckrakers where journalists who wrote about the corrupt side of business and public life in mass circulation magazines. These people exposed many bad things about companies and later led to laws and regulations. -
National Child Labor Committee
Sent investigaters to work places to gather evidence of children working in harsh conditions. To do this they took pictures, gathered statistics and also discovered the dangers in the workplace. Then the Labor union members joined in and soon they got the Keating-Owen Act passed. -
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire killed 500 young women. There was no way to get out because the managers locked them inside. The American Society of Safety Engineers was created. -
Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a heir to the Austrian throne. When visiting the Bosnian capital, him and his wife where assassinatied by Gavrilo Princip. This was the start of WW1. -
German U-Boat Response
The Germans response to the British blockade was to blow up ships around Britian. Sunk the Lusitania, the Arabic and the Sussex which killed Americans. This made the U.S mad at Germany and gave them more of a reason to go to war. -
Zimmermann note
The Zimmermann note was a telegram sent to the German ambassador in Mexico by the Foreign Secretary of the German saying if a war would break out with us they would help Mexic go get land back. It was intercepted and coded by the British. This was a part in the U.S. joining the war -

Was a formar muckraker. He was apointed head of the Committee on Public Information by president Wilson. He made lots of war propaganda and made sure everyone helped the war effort. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was made by the "Big Four". It required Geman to pay reparation to Allies which was about $33 billion. Also it required a the map of Europe to be redrawn. It used one of Wilison's 14 point which was League of Nations. This would later lead to WW2 -
Prohibition
The national ban on the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol. Which formed the 18th amendment and that formed the Volstead Act. Then later the 21st which repealed the 18th amendment.
