    the embryo is beginning to transition between embryo and fetus. It is now about 61mm. It develops a heart beat and it's facail features become more distinct. Also, its genitals have begun to developed characteristics, but stil not fully formed.

    By week 12, the fetus begins to grow nails and starts to better resemble a human. The head is erect but disproportionately large. Itts skin is pink and quite delicate. Some bones are well outlined and the blood begins to form in marrow Also, organs like lungs, kidney and the Brain begin to form. At this point in the pregnancy the sex of the baby can be detirmined. The fetus is about 6-9 cm.

    Most bones are distincly inticated through the fetus' body as well as the development of joint cavities . Also its muscular movements can be detected. The heart is well developedand the kidney is in position. Also, the genreal sense organs can be developed. The baby is 11.5-13.5 cm and wighs about 100g.

    Fetal movements are strong enough to feel, and the primitave respitory- like movements begin. Also, the brain is grossly formed and the spinal chord ends S-1. The nose and ears ossify. The fetus is aproximately16-18.5cm.

    Blood formation increases in bone marrow ad decreases in the liver. At this point the baby can hear and cerebal cortex is layered, and the neuronal proliferation cerebal cortex ends. The baby is aproximately 23cm.

    by week 28 the fetus is able to reopen eyelids and its retinal layers are completed. Also, the pupils are light receptive and are capable of reacting to light. It is also capable of weak movements and minimum tone. The fetus has indefinate sleeping and wake cycles as well as weak cries and suck reflex. A healthy baby should be about 27cm.

    At this point in the pregnancy the baby is developing many senses and refelexes, as wel as its permanant teeth primordia that are able to be seen. The baby is able to turn its head to the side even if the movement may be weak. It develops its sense of taste and is aware of sounds outside the mother's body. He or She is about 31cm.

    The baby begins a definate sleep/wake cycle and its spinal chord ends at level (L-3) . The formation of nephrons cease and its movements are definate. The baby can now not only turn its head, but it can also elevate it. From crown to rump the baby should be about 35cm.
