    The Great Depression
    The Great Depression was caused because the banks were closing since so many people were withdrawing their money after the stock market crash of 1929. The Great Depression was a dark time where unemployment rates were high causing poverty and suicide.

    “Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt.
    He was very good at addressing the nation in times of crisis to calm their fears and to reassure them.

    Getting Elected
    Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States and the only president to be elected four times. He was president from 1933-1945 before his death.
  • Challenges

    FDR completed three full terms and died shortly into his fourth term because of polio which he had his whole life. Despite this sickness paralyzing him from the waist down, he was a very successful president.
  • The New Deal

    The New Deal
    • In response to the Great Depression Roosevelt created the New Deal; a series of programs and reforms aimed to restore hope to Americans.
    • He created different government agencies which all helped people from different backgrounds. Example: some programs covered agriculture and others in industry.
    • Roosevelt also created a good plan to rebuild confidence in the nation’s banking system. He closed the banks under the Emergency Banking Act until Congress could act.

    WW2
    World War 2 began in 1939 and ended in 1945.
    America joined the war in 1941 and allied with Britain and the Soviet Union.
    They were victorious in defeating Nazi Germany.
    Successful response to Pearl Harbor after Japan bombed the navy.
    Roosevelt had been planning the Normandy invasion aka D-Day for years.
