    The Quill
    The Quill was first used between 500 and 700 AD. The quill is a feather that was dipped in a nut or gum based ink.     The fountain pen was patented in 1803. In 1884 Louis Waterman invented the first proper fountain pen. The pen was able to hold ink in itself. The writing was the same as the quill. It had a pointy end and the ink would slide of it and onto the paper. The pen would have to be refilled every once in a while with so that it could keep being used.
