  • First Distance Learning Course

    The first distance learning course was created in Boston, MA. The lessons were sent via mail.
  • The use of the radio

    Penn State University would begin to offer courses to students by use of the radio.
  • Broadcasting licenses for everybody!

    More than 200 universities/schools were granted radio broadcasting licenses.
  • The Great Depression

    Sadly, only around 35 radio broadcasting stations were left due to the impact from the Great Depression

    This act helped to establish television/broadcasting. This allowed for institutions to use tv for educational purposes.

    This institution became the first collegiate institution to offer full time bachelor's and master's degrees fully online.

    First accredited and fully based university founded by Glen Jones and Bernard Luskin
  • BlackBoard

    "In 2003 the Blackboard Learning System staff announced that 40,000 instructors were teaching 150,000 online courses to more than 6 million students, across 55 countries" (Academy, 2022).

    More than 80% of colleges/institutions offered an online course.

    Over 4.5 million students were taking some sort of classes online.

    Massive open online courses (MOOC) are made available to all types of students.

    The pandemic known as coronavirus shut down schools nationwide and worldwide. This forced us into a challenging age where schools were not prepared to move all students to fully online/distance learning.
