Events That Led To WW2...

  • The Militarists Take Control Of Japan

    The Japanese blamed the goverment when The Great Depression hit Japan back in 1929. They wanted to restore the traditional control of the governments to the military. So, they placed Emperor Hirohito as the pupper emperor.
  • Hitler became chancellor.

    He was appointed to be the Chancellor of Germany after the death of president Paul Von Hindenburg.
  • The Treaty of Versailles was Violated.

    The Treaty of Versailles was violated Hitler, he did not like/ thought that the Germans were above every other race and should not be treated unequally. Hitler ignored and did not follow the Treaty of Versailles and went ahead in re-arming Germany.
  • Spanish Civil War

    There was an outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, and the military's leader asked for Germany to help out. Hitler has deicided to help them out on July 26th 1936. This event was helpful for Hitler to practice his strategies, weapons, and his army for later on with other wars. The Spanish Civil War allowed Hitler become closer with Italy, it gave Hitler many advantages.
  • Germany declares union with Austria.

    Germany declares union (Anschluss) with Austria. Austria at the time was very weak, so they could not have done anything or rebelled to it. This shows that Germany is starting to increase its territory by invading the other countries.
  • Munich Conference

    A conference was held by the president of England, Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier with France, Britain, Italy and Germany. Neville allowed Hitler to takeover Sudentland with Hitler promising to not takeover any other territories.
  • Germany invades Czechoslovakia

    Hitler wanted to provide more space for living for the Germans and to control the natural resources, therefore he went and invaded Czechoslovakia.
  • The Pact of Steel was signed.

    Italy and Germany signed the Pact of Steel and therefore they have signed an agreement based on an assumption that there would be a war soon. The agreement tied the German and Italian military, economics, and policies together. Hitler was slowly preparing for war.
  • Non-Aggression Pact was signed

    This pact was signed by Germany and Russia, stating that the two countries would not declare war on each other, they called a truce. Hitler gave Joseph Stalin a deal of giving Russia half of Poland if they help invade Poland, that is how Hitler got Joseph Stalin to sign the agreement.
  • Declaration of War.

    Britain, France, New Zealand, and Australia declared war on Germany. Before Hitler went into futher invasions, they declared war. By declaring war, people were disappointed and they felt and became hopeless.
  • France Falls.

    The war in France was known to be a phony war, that is because there were no actions made. Germany went to hit the capital of France from both sides, France then fell. France surrenders by signing an armistice.
  • Battle of Britain

    The war involved air force. When Britian attacked a city in Germany, Germany then attacked London back. This was an advantage for the British because they had the time to fix their radars and their airplanes.
  • United States Gets involved with Undeclared War

    When the German U Boat fired a U.S. destroyer into the Atlantic, President Roosvelt ordered the navy to shoot the German submarines. Then later on the United States found out that the attack was actually from Japan.
  • Moscow Attack

    Hitler attacks the capital city of Russia, Moscow, after seeing that bombing the food storage had no effect to Russia giving in. But then the Soviet Union counterattacked and also the cold weather forced the German to retreat.
  • Japan Bombs Pearl Harbour

    The United States increased their army and moved near the Pearl Harbour, and the Japanese that were in the are felt threatened. So, they attacked the Pearl Harbour.
  • United States and Britain declares war on Japan

    The Americans were very upset after the attack at the Pearl Harbour done by the Japanese. The next day the United States and Britain has declared war on Japan.
  • The Battle of Bulge

    With the Allied force moving towards Germany from the west and the Soviet force moving towards Germany from the east. The German tanks ended up breaking through the weak American defenses.
  • Bombing in Okinawa

    American troops moved to an island Okinawa which is south of Japan. This war was important because this was the last stop/ last island to capture before they could head north to invade Japan.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    On this day, the Americans dropped an atomic on Hiroshima, a city in Japan with a population of 350,000 people at the time, from this bomb approx. 70,000 people died. Then later on, the Americans has dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki another city in Japan with a population of 270,000 people at the time, and this attack killed over 70,000 people. This lead to the Japanese finally surrendering on September 2nd 1945. And by surrendering, the war had finally ended.
