    What had happened- End of dynasties in China, Failing economy because of Red Guard, Destruction of schools
    How impacted Cold War- This was like a post-cold war. May have been critical to the success of the civil rights movement in US
  • Korean War

    Who involved- North Korea, South Korea, UN, Russia
    What had happened- North Korea did a surprise attack against South Korea
    How impacted Cold War- UN occupied South Korea and Soviets occupied North Korea
  • Sputnik Launched and (the space race)

    Who involved-Russians, US
    What had happened-When Russians launched Sputnik; the US approved funding for another U.S. Satellite project
    How impacted Cold War- Arms race started to increase rapidly. Tensions grew between US and Russia

    What had happened- US spy plane was shot down after it had been flying over Soviet territory for 4 hours
    How impacted Cold War- the USSR made an announcement about the attack to make it seem as though they were more advanced than they were.
  • Berlin Wall Goes Up

    Who involved-Germany (Berlin), US
    What had happened- Kennedy went to a summit meeting to fight for Berlin. He fought for Berlin by threatening to isolate West Berlin. Khrushchev fought back and quickly built a wall.
    How impacted Cold War- This affected the Cold War because the tensions grew and the wall and guards surrounding the wall limited East Germans access to the other half of the city
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Who involved-US, Cuba, Soviets
    What had happened- Soviets said they would defend Cuba but US said we would not allow presence of Nuclear weapons
    How impacted Cold War-Any attack on Cuba would launch an all-out attack with the soviets as well.
  • Uprisings in Hunary and Czechoslovakia

    Uprisings in Hunary and Czechoslovakia
    Who involved- Soviets, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, East Germany, and Poland
    What had happened- Soviet Union had led the Warsaw pact troops in an invasion of Czechoslovakia to crack down on reformists
    How impacted Cold War- Both countries didn’t like communism and it began to inspire other countries
  • Russia Invades Afghanistan

    Russia Invades Afghanistan
    Who involved-Russia, Afghanistan (Amin)
    What had happened- Amin was shot by Russians. Amin was person who wanted Afghanistan more western. New leader needed Russians aid.
    How impacted Cold War-This had shown communism started to spread between Cuba, Berlin, Afghanistan, etc.
