    Between the Colonies and Britain, tensions had been rising. At night on April 18th, crowds of British troops marched to Concord from Boston. Paul Revere galloped on his horse warning "the British are coming!".At the battle of Lexington,Captain John Parker said,"Stand your ground, don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here".     First Major Battle-Bunker Hill
    Militiamen planned to gain control of two hills overlooking Boston, Bunker Hill and Breeds Hill. The advantage of these hills were the colonists could control Boston Harbor better! When the colonists started to build trenches at the top of Breed's Hill, the British attacked.Colonists were low on gunpowder so they were told "Hold your fire until you see the whites of their eyes".     British General Burgoyne and his troops were making their way to Albany, New York.He recaptured Fort Ticonderoga, but lost many men in a battle in Vermont. American General Horatio Gates and his men surrounded them, causing them to surrender.     George Washington made his way to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania with his men. It was a very cold winter about to happen. Washington's troops were desperatly hungry. The Colonists at some point sold their food to the British. It was the right time to attack. They pushed the British so their ownly choice was to get on ships a fleed away, but before they could, French ships drove the British ships out.     In 1783, the British and Americans met in Paris to sign a peace treaty, which officially ended the war, The Treaty of Paris.In this treaty many things were agreed. The British recognized the United States as their own independent country. Britain gave up all of its land between the Mississippi River and the Appilacian Mountains.
