COMPROMISE OF 1850
California was annexed as a free state and slave trading was banned in D.C.-the north liked this. The south liked that the 2 territories can decide if they want slavery or not, and the Fugtive Slave Law was passed. This manged to keep the country stay together before the Civil War. -
Uncle's Tom Cabin
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin". The book wanted to stop slavery. -
Kanas-Nebraska Act
People in the terrties could decide if they wanted to have slavery or not. Alot of people began to crowd into Kansas and Nebraska. -
Bleeding Kansas
It is a small scale civil warin Kansas where alot of peope died. The North and South states wanted it to be either free or a slave state. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was a slave that sued for his freedom. The ruling for his case was that African Americans were not citizens and could not sue in court. This increased the tension between north and south states. -
Lincoln-Douglass Debates
Lincoln and Douglass were running for Senator of Illinois, they debated about slavery. Douglass won and Lincoln got nationally famous. -
Harer's Ferry
John Brown and his men seized the federal arsenal to attempt to end slavery. -
Election of 1860
Lincoln got elected for president and the southern states secededand from The Confederate States of America. -
Fort Sumter
President Lincoln said to Davis that he was sending supplies to the fort and Confedarte forces attacked!!!
