Events leading to the Revolutionary War

  • Albany congress

    A meeting of colonial leaders the British called for for an alliance so that they wouldn't get wiped out the Iroquois think they'll lose so don't show up Ben Franklin thought that the colonies had to succeed so he made a chopped up snake with the word join or DIE

    french and Indian war

    French/Indians vs British colonists and Iroquois both wanted control of the Ohio river valley British gained victory and almost all of french land in north america
  • Treaty of Paris

    The french sighed away all land in america east of the Mississippi except the new Orleans and almost all native american possessions it when signed in Paris made native Americans lose land to British settlers and could not stop them from taking there land
  • The Quartering act

    This was to save money by making colonists house British soldiers and provide food and other goods and supplies then the colonists complained that this was a violation of there rights.

    Pontiac's War

    In may 1763 settlers where trying to take over native american land then leader of the Ottawa nation Pontiac started a war by killing 2000 back country settlers then in august Pontiac's forces where defeated by fort Pitt but they still fought for another year till they where defeated
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The British wanted to avoid further wars with native Americans so they drew a line west of the Appalachian mountains this was of course Ohio river valley territory the colonists thought that it was unfair to restrict the area where they fought a war to get and they wanted to reside where they pleased
  • Sugar act

    This is the British effort to impose new taxes to make back the money from the war its a tax on molasses and other goods but people just smuggled it then instead of paying for the goods
  • Stamp Act

    The act that required all colonists to buy special tax stamps for acts and goods such as newspapers wills licenses insurance policies land titles contracts and more then the colonists made a boycott and got it removed but then the parliament passed the Declaratory Act which said they could rule the colonies however they pleased
  • Boston massacre

    The Parliament replied all the townshend duties except the one on tea but they where not quick enough in Boston an angry crowd of workers and sailors surrounded soldiers and threw rock and snowballs at them and the frightened soldiers shot in to the crowd killing 5
  • The Tea Act

    This was to help the British east India tea Company one of Britain's most important companies however even thought it reduced prices of tea the colonies held a boycott to this because they did not want a monopoly
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Tea Party was when a group of colonists the sons of liberty destroyed 1,000,000 dollars worth of tea by tossing it into the harbor in Boston the amount of tea was 90,000 pounds of tea 342 in three hours and a crowd was cheering at them
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Boston Tea party outraged the British government so they passed four laws one closing the port of Boston two others increased the powers of the royal governor and also cut the powers of town meetings and the fourth law strengthened the 1765 Quartering act
  • The First Continental Congress

    The congress to repeal the Intolerable acts and declared that the colonies had the right to govern themselves and tax themselves it also called for training militias and a boycott of British goods
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    In April General Tomas Gage learned that minutemen were storing arms in Concord so he sent 700 troops to seize the arms and colonial leaders then minutemen came out and when the British told them to go home they refused and then a shot that was heard around the world was fired the start of the revolution
  • The second continental congress

    After Lexington and Concord attack the congress still wanted peace to be restored between the British and american so they sent the olive branch petition and that didn't work
  • Battle for fort Ticonderoga

    In northern new York an important battle took place a band of colonists made a surprise attack on fort Ticonderoga there where 83 of them 42 British solders and the British surrendered almost immediately and then the colonists got cannons a fort guns ammo etc to drive British from the city
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    Now that the colonists have Bunker and Breeds hill they have two high points near Charles town when British troops tried to take it over they won but at a cost of 1,000 dead of wounded because of bright red coats and perfect lines
  • Olive Branch Petition

    In the last attempt for peace the american congress or continental congress sent the olive branch petition and the king didn't even open it and thought it was rebellion and then sent 20,000 troops to america
  • The invasion of Quebec

    While Benedict Arnold moved through Maine he had a terrible journey his troops where forced to boil shoe leather candles and wood to eat in 1775 the Americans attacked Quebec during a snow storm Montgomery was killed and Arnold was hurt
  • The British withdrawal from Boston

    In march George Washington placed cannons from fort Ticonderoga on high ground over looking Boston when the British could no longer defend the city they fled by ship and never returned
