    Columbus' Trips to the Americas

I blame Columbus entirely for the Civil War. He introduced slavery to literally, HALF of the world. Shame on him. He started this... and the chain of the events just lead to the Civil War.
  • Slavery is introduced to Jamestown

    Slavery is introduced to Jamestown
Slavery was even there... at America's foundation. Due to owning slaves, obviously, slavery would soon rise up as a moral issue, this just started the conflict.
  • 1/20th of Virginians are Slaves

    1/20th of Virginians are Slaves
As I can imagine, many people probably thought that "indentured servitude" was just, not a big deal... it would go away. That statement's falseness became apparent when in the 1671, the Census revealed that already one twentieth of the population were "indentured servants." That sure didn't stop slavery.

  • Ignoring Slavery in the Declaration

    Ignoring Slavery in the Declaration
Declaring freedom from Britain was a huge step in the right direction, however, our founding fathers, held in such high esteem, ignored slavery in the Declaration. It says all "Men are created equal" (except slaves apparently) Their ignorance just enhanced the movement begun by the Quakers...

    Invention of the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney's invention of the Cotton Gin was a major benefit to the process of picking cotton... BUT it skyrocketed the need for slaves. More slaves = more civil unrest = Civil War

    Fugitive Slave Act
This was just obvious. Northerners hated the law. Southereners were upset with the laws lack of enforcement. EVEN MORE OF A DIVIDE BETWEEN NORTH AND SOUTH. "insert sad face"
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
This book by Harriet Beecher Stowe, inspired many Northerners to join the ever-strengthening abolitionist movement, and morew abolitionists means the Souths gets more worried. This emotion was one of many that forced the South to suceed.
  • The Dred Scott Verdict

    The Dred Scott Verdict
"Slaves are property NOT humans." WHAT?! This outraged Northerners and semi-pleased Southerners, causing an even LARGER divide between the two... (if that's even possible)
  • John Brown's Execution

    John Brown's Execution
The execution of John Brown served as a martyr for many Northerners. With their new mascot in tow, many Northerners bacame abolitionists further distressing the Southerners.
  • Abraham Lincoln's Election

    Abraham Lincoln's Election
This was "the final nail in the South's sucession coffin." The Lincoln election showed the South they had absolutely NO political power. So... no power or happiness... what could the South do?
