The French & Indian War
Cause: English colonists ran out of land, they want to move west. French and English both claim the Ohio river valley. Native Americans and the French are upset that the colonists moved onto their land.
Effect: War costs a lot of money, so the country must pay for soldiers, supplies, weapons, and other fees. Therefore, Britain decides to tax the colonist. -
The Stamp Act
Cause: The British need to pay off debts from French and Indian War
Effect: Colonists boycott British manufactured goods in protest, parliament repeals act. -
Boston Massacre
Cause: Britain sent troops to occupy/ control the cities
Effect: Colonial leaders used the killings as propaganda and colonist begin to call for stronger boycotts against British goods. Parliament repealed taxes on British imports, except for the one on tea. -
Boston Tea Party
Cause: Colonists were still angry that they had to pay taxes on tea.
Effect: King George III realized that Britain was losing control over the colonies, and passed a series of laws called the Intolerable Acts. -
The Intolerable Acts
Cause: The Boston Tea Party made King George III realize Britain was losing control over the colonies.
Effect:
Stopped most shipments to Massachusetts (unsuccessful at cutting them off- other colonies sent goods to them).
