    In 1852 Uncle Toms Cabin a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe was released to try to end slavery.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This law was passed to try and stop the problem of slavery in western territories but it ended up causing people to flee to these states to cast thier vote on wether or not the territories should be pro or anti- slavery.

  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a missouri slave that attempted to sue for his freedom but supreme court ruled that he could not sye because he was not a cittizen and had no rights. This angered many northerners and many became Republicans.
  • Licoln-Douglass Debates

    Licoln-Douglass Debates
    Lincoln and Douglass were running for senator of illinois in 1858. thier debates were called the Licoln-Douglass Debates. Lincoln thought that slavery was wrong but llegal so he thought it should not be expanded. Douglass won the election but Lincoln became nationaly famous.
  • Harper's Ferry

    Harper's Ferry
    John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry to stir up a slave revoltion in virginia and end slavery. John Brown was captured along with 10 other men, found guilty, and executed.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The south threaten to secede from the union if Lincoln was elected because they thought that he would abolish slavery because he promised to stop the expantion of slavery. Lincoln was elected and the south seceded saying that because the volentery joined the union they had the right to leave. The south formed the Confederate States of America. They elected Jefferson Davis as president and wrote a constitution that supported states rights and protected slavery.
