    Treaty of Versailles gets signed
    The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that was signed at the end of WWI. It ended war between Germany and the Allied Powers. Exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, it was signed. It took half a year of discussions at the Paris Peace Conference to conclude the peace treaty. It was registered by the Secretariat of the League of Nations on October 21st, 1919.
  • Mussolini takes power in Italy

    Mussolini was an Italian politician. He was Priminister from 1922 until 1943. Mussolini ruled constitutionally until 1925, he then dropped democracy and set up a legal dictatorship. He was the founder of fascism in Italy and took power on October 31st, 1922.

    This was the most devastating crash in the history of the US when considering the full extent and time of its fallout. It was caused when stocks dropped profoundly. People lost houses, businesses and basically all of their money. Panic proceeded to worsen the situation. This even triggered The Great Depression.

    The Japanese armed forces taken over many strategic points in South Manchuria. This was a long-planned military operation that was an attempt to destroy Manchuria. It was an act of aggression. And it had been completed in disregard to Japan's obligations.

    A german politician and leader of Nazi Germany, Hitler was Chancellor until 1945. He was the starter of the Holocaust. He was at the heart of WWII. His main goal was to wipe the world clean of all Jewish culture. He mutainized Germans into torturing and killing anyone of Jewish culture.
  • Italy invades Ethiopia

    Benito Mussolini, the leader of facism in Italy had supported Hitler's plans. He attempted to expand German territories by taking ownership all land he considered German. He invaded Ethiopia and claimed that his policies of expansion were not different from that of other colonial powers in Africa.
  • Remilitarization of the Rhineland

    Remilitarization of the Rhineland
    German military forces entered Rhineland. They violated the terms of the Treaty of Versailles and the Locarno Treaties. This was the first time since the end of WWI that German troops had been in this region. This is an important event in history as it changed the balance of power from France to Germany. This made it possible for Germany to pursue agression in Eastern Europe.
  • Spanish Civil War

    A civil war fought from 1936 to 1939 between the Republicans, who supported the democratic, the Second Spanish Republic, and the Nationalists. It started after a decloration of opposition was made by the Spanish Republican Armed Forces. The Nationalists captured most of Spain's Northern Coastline and took Madrid. In the end, they captured large parts of Catalonia as well. The war ended with the victory of the Nationalists.
  • Rome Berlin Axsis is signed

    Coalition formed between Italy and Germany. An agreement made by Italy’s foreign minister Galeazzo Ciano was reached on October 25, 1936. It was formalized by the Pact of Steel in 1939. The term Axis Powers came to include Japan as well.
  • Anschluss

    Anschluss
    Anschluss was a Nazi propaganda term. It meant "the invasion and forced incorporation of Austria to Nazi Germany." The 1938 Anschluss stands in contrast to the Anschluss movement (Austria and Germany united as one country).
  • Munich Conference

    This was a settlement that allowed Nazi Germany to invade parts of Czechoslovakia. They invaded along the country's borders which were mostly inhabited by German speakers. Therefore, a new territorial designation "Sudetenland" was created.

    On September 3, Prime Minister Chamberlain announced that a state of war existed between their country and Germany. German invaded Poland, starting the first "Blitzkrieg" the world had seen. This event had been planned since March and ever since, the German troops occupied the rest of Czechoslovakia. World War II had begun.
