    The French had lost hold on most of their land including their Capital of Quebec.

    In Paris, France Britain and France had signed the Treaty of Paris. France lost almost all of its North Americans possessions, and surrendered French Canada to Great Britain. Great Britain also gained the French territory east of the Mississippi (with the exception of New Orleans) along with Spanish Florida.

    Pontiac's War

    Leader of the Ottawa nation Pontiac formed an alliance with the western Native Americans. Pontiac and his allies attacked British forts because they didn't want the colonists invading their land. Almost half a dozen British forts were destroyed and at least 2000 backcountry settlers were killed. British settlers reacted with equal viciousness. Killing Natives who hadn't attacked.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    British government wishing to avoid further wars with the Native Americans on the frontier had issued the Proclamation of 1763. It banned colonial settlement west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. The Proclamation angered many colonists and proved to be impossible for Britain to enforce.

    The purpose of the quartering act was to save money. To enforce the Proclamation of 1763 the quartering act required the colonists to house and feed the British soldiers. The colonists complained that Parliament was violating their rights.

    The Sugar Act was a tax on several British products including molasses.

    The stamp act required that all colonists buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products and activities. The stamps had to be placed on newspapers, wills, licenses, insurance policies, land titles, contracts, and other documents.

A group of men disguised themselves as Native Americans boarded the ships and destroyed 90,000 plus pounds of tea worth thousands of dollars.

  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    Ethan Allen led the Green Mountain Boys a group of 83 men. They got to Fort Ticonderoga in early morning surprising the British forces, they surrendered almost immediately. Ethan Allens men seized several dozen cannons. Of which George Washington would later use to fire upon the British ships.
  • Second Continental Congress

    After the battles of Lexington and Concord. Most colonist still didn't favor independence. At the same time many were ready to use force to defend themselves from British rule. The meeting of the second congress was divided about what to do. They decided that George Washington would lead an army into battle. Also to pay for the army the congress decided to start manufacturing paper money.

    The Olive Branch Petition was a petition stating that the colonists were loyal to the King. This was sent to Britain with an olive branch an ancient symbol of peace. The effort to make peace failed, due to the fact that King George didn't even look at the petition before sending 20,000 soldiers to the colonies.

    The americans attacked Quebec durins a severe snowstorm. The americans stayed outside Quebec until May 1776 when the British landed new forces in Canada.

    Washington fired the cannons at the British forces. The British realized that they couldn't keep hold of Boston anymore and retreated by sea never to return again.
