Events leading to the Revolutionary War

  • Albany Congress

    The Albany Congress wanted to control the taxes, armies, relationship with Indians, and authority over western settlements. It was formed because there was threat of war the other thing they wanted was a aliliance with the Iroquois to stop the French but the Iroquois refused. The idea for the congress was thought up by Benjamin Franklin. The congress was important because it was the first time it had been proposed that the 13 colonies join together as one.
  • Stamp Act

    the Stamp act was a tax imposed by parliament it stated that every piece of paper must have a stamp on it in order to be legal. This included wills, newspapers, and birth certificates. This tax did not go well with the colonists the men and woman made emotional speeches they wrote up a few petition. They also organized boycotts of British goods. Then they colonies made the Stamp Act Congress they wrote up a petition and addresed it to the parliment and king. The act was repealed

    The French and Indian War

    French, Indians vs British, Colonists, Iroquois Both wanted control of the Ohio River Valley. The British won the war the French lost all of there land the only keeping a small part of Haiti.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty was the end of the French and Indian War. It took place in Paris. When France surrender they lost all of there land in the Americas exept spanish flordia but this did suroung them so they could not expand there land anymore . Britain and Spaniards gained all of the land.the spanish gained the land east of the Mississippi River. This was the start of of new problems between the Indians and the Americans, because the Indians thought they had a right to the land.

    The Quartering act was an act that in short said that the British forces that were in the colonies mush be fed and housed by the colonists.this was a idea by the britich to save money because they were in a lot of deat. Instead of boycotting the colonists protested angerly and the act was repealed.

    the Sugar act was a tax from Britain to tax sugar and molasses .
    this was a problem because the colonists used molasses to make rum. The only way to get around this tax was smuggling. With was risky because it called for a harsh punishment for smugglers. But after the colonist boycott all British goods, the act was repealed
  • The Boston Massacre

    This event was greatly misinterpreted by the media and the colonists the way the people saw it was a bunch of British soldiers who came up and shot at innocent colonists, Which was not true at all, the colonists surrounded the soldiers and they were throwing snowballs and rocks. This was atrocious to John Adams who defended the soldiers in court

    The tea act was a act imposed by British Parlament was a tax on tea. The coclinest despite it lowering the price of tea it gave the East India Company a monapaly on the tea. This act hurt the merachant in the colines

    The Boston Tea party was a protest thought up by the Sons of Liberty in response to the Tea Act. The men dressed up as Indians and threw 342 cases of tea worth over a million dollars (in today's money) into the Boston harbor.

    The first Continental Congress

    The first Continental Congress was founded in retaliation to the Intolerable acts 12 out of the 13 colonies sent a representative these men included James Jay, George Washington (that George Washington) and Samuel Adams they consulted three things when they were in Philadelphia one that they would boycott British goods in protest, they would train militia in case of war,and to tax and govern themselves then they also decided to meet again if their demands were not meet in May of 1775.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    A British general had heard of some guns being stored in Concord Massachusetts so he sent 700 men down to Concord to steal the guns and arrest some of the leaders of the rebellion. but before they got there a local silversmith named Paul Revere heard about the plans to raid Concord. He road his horse to Concord before the British came. Minutemen of the area came and confronted the British. The first shot fired came to be known as " the shot heard round the world "

    The Second Continental Congress came together and desided many things for one amost all of the deligates feelt like that an army needed to be prepaired for war they also elected a comader of the newly founded army, George Washington and the last thing they did was deside to print paper money to sustane there army. this plan would later fail.
  • Battle for Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga was a fort in upstate New York. the fort was taken in a daring play by Ethan Allen who was the local blacksmith. Most of his followers were from today's Vermont they were called the green mountain boys. the 83 men made their way up to the fort and the British surrender with no fight. This helped the patriots get important weapons like guns and cannons
  • The Battle of Bunker and Breeds Hill

    The Battle of Bunker and Breeds Hill was a battle run by Israel Putnam. The general knew that the men were really low on ammunition so he told the men " don't shoot till you see the white of their eyes " This strategy surprisingly worked. The British marched up the hill and there the first line was shoot down this happen three times and the Americans would have one but they had run out of ammunition. The win came with a big price over 1000 British soldiers were dead.
