  • The Albany Congress

    The Albany Congress was a meeting of colonial leaders.The British invited the colonists and the Iroquois tribes, hoping they could make an alliance with them against against the French. The Iroquois did not agree to the alliance.Benjamin Franklin created a plan, called the Albany Plan of Union the plan gave the council authority over the western settlements, relations with native Americans,and it collected taxes. Albany congress approved the plan, but not the colonial assembly did not.

    French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War was fought between the British and the French. They were fighting to win land. After the war the British had won, they received control of most of North America. France had an alliance with the colonists, and the British had an alliance with the Iroquois tribes.
  • Treaty of Paris

    France could not defend their North American land anymore after their loss. All of their cities fell. France signed the Treaty of Paris with Britain. Great Britain gained some of the French's territory besides New Orleans and the French territories west of the Mississippi. The British also gained Spanish Florida. The Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris, France.
  • The Quartering Act

    The purpose of the Quartering Act was to save money. Parliament had passed 2 acts were passed. The act was one of the Intolerable Acts in response to the Boston Tea party. The act had made colonists to house, British Troops and care for them. Parliament created this act because of the French and Indian War.It helped out the British soldiers a lot. The colonists protested angrily again about the act and how it violated their rights. The act was repealed after Parliament realized it cost too much.

    Pontiac's War

    The leader of the Ottawa nation,Pontiac,had formed an alliance with the western Native Americans.They then went and attacked British forts and settlements because he did not like the new policies they made.They destroyed almost half a dozen forts and at least 2,000 settlers had got killed.The British settlers came back with madness.They killed Native Americans who didn't attack them.The British defeated Pontiac's forces in a battle August new Fort Pitt.Pontiac still fought for another year.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    British created the Proclamation of 1763 to avoid wars with Native Americans. The Proclamation banned colonial settlement west of the line near the Appalachian Mountains. The settlers had to move east of the line. The colonists got angry and protested. The Proclamation was ignored and proved that the British could not enforce the Proclamation.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act put taxes on several products, including molasses. the act was made to raise revenue from the American colonists from the 13 colonies. It was a very harsh punishment for smugglers. The merchants who trade smuggled goods had protested.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act made paper and paper products have a stamp on the. All documents had to have a stamp.The Colonists didn't like this act.Merchants in New York, Boston,and Philadelphia organized a boycott.Now people are not buying British goods,causing the British to lose money.The protest spread and the colonies created a petition made for the King. It wanted to end the Sugar and Stamp Act.The Parliament stopped the Stamp Act,anew act was made,Parliament now had control over the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was when British soldiers in Boston fired on a group of American colonists killing five me because they wanted the removal of British Troops, because of all the new acts that the British had made.John Adams defended the soldiers believing that everyone should have the right to a lawyer and free trial.After the Massacre Samuel Adams created a Committee of Correspondence.It kept the colonists informed of British actions. This helped unite the colonists against Britain.

    The Tea Act lowered the price of tea and helped out the East India Company.The act let the Company ship tea easier,they didn't have to go through Britain.Some colonists liked the act,others didn't.The people thought that the act gave the East India Company a monopoly on selling British tea in the colonies.The monopoly hurt a lot of merchants,so they sold tea that they had smuggled to compete with the low price of the company's tea.People still had to pay taxes even though the price was lowered.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A group called the Sons of Liberty arranged in ports to to stop the Ease India Company from their tea being unloaded.They threatened people to not buy the tea or unload it.Tea was not unloaded in New York,Philadelphia or other ports,but in Boston the governor wanted the tea to be unloaded.A group of men disguised themselves as Native Americans and boarded the tea ship.Those guys threw 342 cases of tea in the harbor.The group of men destroyed 90,000 pounds of tea worth thousands of dollars.
  • Intolerable Acts.

    The Intolerable Acts were 4 laws that were passed after the Boston Tea Party.The first law closed the port of Boston.The second, abolished the upper house of the Massachusetts legislature. he third law cut the powers of town meetings.The fourth law of the Intolerable Acts strengthened the 1765 Quartering Act.Parliament also passed the Quebec Act.The act claimed land between the Ohio and the Missouri rivers as part of Canada.This took away western lands and blocked colonists from moving west.
  • First Continental Congress

    The meeting was with 12 of the 13 colonial delegates. Georgia did not send a delegate. The congress demanded that the Intolerable Acts should be repealed and that the colonies had a right to tax and govern themselves. They also called for the militias to be trained to stand up to British troops if needed. Also the congress called for a new boycott of British goods. If the demands were not met then the voted to meet again in May 1775.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    About 700 troops were sent to seize the arms and capture some important colonial leaders.A signal was sent out and Paul Revere and William Dawes road to warn minutemen that the British were coming.In Lexington 77 minutemen were waiting for the British troops to come.When they did,an unknown first shot was fired.The British opened fire.In concord 400 minutemen fought the British.The British retreated to Boston,about 4,000 Americans followed and fired at them killing and wounding 300 British.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    After the Battles of Lexington and Concord colonists, still were ready to fight and defend their rights against the British.As Britain's problems deepened the Second Continental Congress started.All of the delegates that were there felt they needed to prepare for war.The Congress chose George Washington to be the commander of the newly made Continental Army.The congress took steps to pay for the army by printing paper money.The Second Continental Congress was starting to act like a government.
  • Battle for Fort Ticonderoga

    A group of colonists attacked at Fort Ticonderoga.There were only 83 men in the force and it was lead by, Ethan Allen.They attacked in the morning and the British troops surrendered almost immediately.Fort Ticonderoga was important because it controlled the main route between Canada and the Hudson Rive Valley.It also had valuable weapons.When they got the fort they got several cannons.These are the cannons that got moved to Boston where George Washington used them to attack the British.
  • Battles of Bunker and Breeds Hill

    On Breed's Hill the Americans had an advantage of easy fire at the British.Nearby was Bunker Hill also controlled by the Americans.When the Americans fired, 100's of British soldiers fell dead and wounded.The British's 1st attack failed as well as their 2nd.Their 3rd worked,but only because the Americans ran out of ammunition. The British lost a lot of their soldiers in the war. All of the fighting didn't even solve Britain's problems.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The petition stated that the colonists were loyal to the King.It asked King George to stop all of the fighting so all of the problems between the British and the colonists would be solved peacefully. The name "olive branch" comes from a symbol of peace.The people's wishes did not get met by the King.King George did not even look at the letter.Instead he said that the colonies were in "open rebellion."Parliament meanwhile sent 20,000 soldiers to the colonies to end revolt,which made things worst.
  • Invasion of Quebec

    The Invasion of Quebec was happened during the time of the revolutionary war. Patriot forces run by Benedict Arnold and general Richard Montgomery, attempted to capture the British city of Quebec. The attacked failed and Montgomery died. The Battle of Quebec was the first major defeat of the Revolutionary War for the Americans.
  • The British Withdraw from Boston

    After the Battle of Bunker Hill happened, Boston was still surrounded by American forces. In July 1775 George Washington took control of the army. He had to build a stronger army, and needed powerful weapons. He had the British Cannons that were taken at Fort Ticonderoga, be pulled on sleds to Boston. The journey was 300 miles and it took 3 months. Washington set up the cannons over looking Boston. The British could no longer defend the city. They withdrew from Boston and never returned.
