  • The Albany congress

    This took place in Albany New York. They came together to form a alliance with the Iroquois to fight against the French.The British government called a meeting of the colonists.The Iroquois did not agree because they expected the French to win

    French and Indian war

    French and Native Americans vs the British,Iroquois and the colonists. The reason for the war is control of the Ohio river valley. The British win and take all of French territory.
  • The treaty of Paris.

    In 1763 after the French and Indian war Britain and France signed the treaty of Paris. It was signed in Paris Europe. The French signed the paper because they lost Quebec and they could no longer defend their North American territory. Britain took all of the French land and also Spanish Florida.

    Pontiac's war.

    He declared war because the British were taking their land.Out in the west Pontiac destroyed half a dozen of British forts. He killed at least 2000 back-country settlers. The British reacted vicious to they killed Native Americans who didn't even bother them. The British defeated him near Fort Pitt.
  • Proclamation of 1763.

    The British wanted to avoid further wars with the Native Americans on the frontier therefore the British government issued the Proclamation of 1763. It banned colonial settlements west of a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Settlers were told they had to move to a location east of that line. This angered colonists and they ignored the rules.
  • The Quarting Act

    One year later parliament passed the Quartering act. The poupose was tosave money. To enforce the Proclomation of 1763 Britian kept 10,000 soldiers in the colonies. The act required colonists to house the soldiers and provide them with food and other supplies. Once again the colonists complained that parliament was violating their rights.
  • The Sugar Act.

    The British effort to impose new taxes on the colonies began in 1764 when parliament passed the sugar act. It put a import tax on molasses. It also called for harsh punishment on smugglers. Colonial merchants who traded with smuggled goods protested.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was passed in early 1765. The stamp act required that all colonists to buy special tax stamps for all kinds of products such as newspapers, wills, licenses, insurance, policies, land titles, contracts and other documents. protests against the stamp act were widespread.
  • The Boston Massacre

    parliament repealed all the town shed duties except the one on tea. That tax was left in force to demonstrate parliaments right to tax the colonies. In Boston an angry group of workers surrounded a small group of soldiers. They shouted at the soldiers and through rocks at them. The frightened soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 and injuring 6.
  • Tea Act

    In 1773 the British parliament passed the tea act. It was intended to help the British East India Company. For many years the company had made money growing tea in India and selling it to Britain and in the colonies. However the Tea Act actually lowered the price of tea. The prime minister of England felt the colonists would not object but they did because they felt it gave the company monopoly.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A group called the sons of liberty soon organized in port cites to stop India Company tea from being unloaded.They threatened captains that brought the tea.For more than two weeks feelings were tense finally on December 16 1773 a group disguised as Native Americans threw 342 cases of tea into the harbor they destroyed 90000 pounds of tea worth thousands of dollars.

    king George the 3 was outraged about the Boston Tea party he called for tough action. In response of the Incident parliament passed four laws These laws were so harsh the colonists called them Intolerable Acts the first act closed the port o Boston two others increased the powers of the royal governor the last one strengthened the 1765 Quartering Act
  • The first Continental Congress

    The congress demanded to end the Intolerable Acts and declared that the colonies had the right to tax and govern themselves. it also called for the training of militias to stand up to British troops if necessary. It called to meet again in May 1775 if its demands were not met
  • The Battle of lexington and Concord.

    77 minutemen were waiting when the British arrived.the British told them to go home they refused suddenly a shot ran out no one knew who shot it but it turned out to be the first shot but it turned out to be the first shot of the American Revolution. The British opened fire and the war began.A larger battle took place nearby concord 400 minutemen were waiting for the British then the British arrived and they fought as the British retreated 4000 Americans fired at them killing and wounding 300
  • Battle for fort Ticonderoga

    The fort stood at the southern end of Lake Champlain protecting the water route to Canada. Ethan Allan the leader of the colonists had 83 men with him they were heading to Fort Ticonderoga
  • The second continental congress

    Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock and Benjamin Franklin came together in Philadelphia. The congress at first was divided about what to do.A group of delegates from New England wanted to declare independence. All of the delegates felt they needed to prepare for war.The first step was to form an army the chose George Washington to be the commander the congress also took steps to make paper money they were starting to act like a government.

    British general William Howe decided to attack straight up breeds hill the American commander Israel Putnam knew his soldiers did not have enough ammo so they waited until they were 150 feet away then fired hundreds of British soldiers fell The first British attack failed so did the the second but the third attack succeeded only because the Americans ran out of ammo the British won the battle at a terrible cost they lost 1000 troops the Americans lost 400 troops Boston was still trapped.
  • Olive brand petition

    The olive brand pension was sent to king George this pension stated that colonists were loyal to the king.It asked king George to stop the fighting so that all disputes between the colonists and Britain could be solved peacefully. king George did not bother with the petition instead he declared the colonists were in open rebellion parliament voted to send 20000 soldiers to the colonists to end the revolt.
  • Invasion of Quebec

    On December 31 the Americans attacked Quebec during a severe snow storm. The attack was turned back Montgomery was killed and Arnold was injured. The Americans stayed outside Quebec until 1776 when the British landed new forces in Canada. Weakened from disease and hunger the Americans left Quebec leaving Canada to the British.
  • The British withdraw from Boston

    In March Washington placed cannons on high ground overlooking Boston. The British could no longer defend the city. On march 17/ 1776 they withdrew from Boston by sea and never returned. Although the Americans won Boston Washington knew the war was far from over.
