Events leading to the Revolutionary war

  • The Albany Congress

    Where- It took place in Albany, New York.
    Why- The British wanted the colonies to agree to cooperate in defending themselves against the French.They wanted to form a alliance with the Iroquois against the French.
    Who-The British invited the Iroquois tribes, and the colonies to this meeting.
    What-The Iroquois refused because the expected the French to win in the French and British war.

    French and Indian war

    On May 1776, The French/Native Americans went to war against the British/ Colonists/Iroqouis.They wanted to take Control over the Ohio River Valley.This war was in North America. The British won the war, which made France loose their entire Empire in North America.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The document was signed in Paris. Britain and France signed it.
    France lost almost all of its North America possessions. France ceded(surrendered),French Canada to Great Britain. Great Britain also gained all other French territory east of Mississippi, with the exception of New Orleans. Native Americans also lost a great deal. Without French help, the Native Americans could not stop British settlers from moving on their lands.

    Pontiac's War

    In may 1763, Pontiac(Leader of the Ottawa nation)and his allies attacked the British. Half a dozen western British forts were destroyed and at least 2,000 backcountry settlers were killed.They were fighting to claim land.This war took place west of the Appalachian Mountains

    Why- They wanted to avoid future wars with the Native Americans.
    What-The document banned colonial settlement wast of a lie drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.Settlers had to move to a location east of the Appalachian Mountains.

  • Sugar Act

    The British effort to impose new taxes on the colonies began when Parliament passed the Sugar Act in 1764 which put a duty on several products, including molasses. It is also called for hard punishment of smugglers. This act was passed in the British colonies.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering act was To save money. The act required colonists to house British troops and provide them with food and other supplies.The colonists protested angrily.One again, the colonists didn't like this because the parliament was violating their rights.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was between the Patriots and the British. The Patriots were protesting against the Stamp Act. The British were ordered to shoot which killed 5 Patriots. The British backed down and cleared out fast.
  • Tea Act

    The British Parliament passed the Tea Act. This Act was meant to help the East India Company. The price of the tea actually got lowered but the colonist still protested. They protested because they didn't want East India Company to get a monopoly. A monopoly is total control of a market for a certain product. The monopoly affected colonial merchants. Also many colonial leaders argued that even though the price was lowered, the colonists still had to pay tax for the tea.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was about when the sons of liberty poured 90,000 pounds of tea off a ship. They wanted to stop the East India Company from unloading their tea places. They threatened ship captains and the merchants that said they would by the tea. No tea was unloaded in New York, Philadelphia, and other ports.However Governor Thomas Hutchinson wanted the tea to be unloaded so he didn't give them the papers that said they could return to England. He made the first arriving Tea ships unload.

    The First Continenal Congress was a meeting of twelve colonists from the Thirteen Colonies.They were planning on how to get rid of the intolerable acts. There options were boycotts or to trade.This event took place in Philadelphia.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    This event was taken place in the towns of Lexington and Concord.It was the start of th Revolutionary War. This was between Great Britain and The Thirteen Colonies.The British forces screeched for wepons but could not find any so they started their march home.But the militiamen kept shooting until the end of the day.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    A daring band of colonists made a surprise attack on Fort Ticonderoga. The Fort was at the southern end of Lake Champlain and protected the water route to Canada.75 Green mountain and Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen killed the British in for ticonderoga this was apart of the revolutionary war.

    Very early in the Revolutionary War there was battle between the British and Americans. The British defeated the Americans. This was called the Battle of Bunker Hill. Its was called that even though it took place near the Breed Hill.

    This Battle was between American Continental Army forces the British defenders. This was early in the Revolutionary War.Its was a major lost for the Americans.400 Men were taken prisoner.Next the Americans went after Montreal.

    Its was the beginning of the Revolutionary War. In Washington they could no longer protect the city. They put their cannons high ground over looking the city. On March 17,1776 they withdrew from Boston by sea and never returned
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament. This was a tax that you had to pay to get a stamp to put on every piece of paper that is printed. For example, licenses, newspapers, birth cercifacates and other important documents.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was not a real party. The sons of liberty(a group of colonists) soon organized in port cities to stop the East India Company from unloading there tea.They threatened ship captains and the merchants who said they would buy the tea. No tea was unloaded in New York, Philadelphia, or other ports. However, governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to give the arriving tea ships papers that would allow them to return to England. So he ordered the first tea ship to arrive to unload.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts was punishment towards the Sons of Liberty from the American Patriots.These laws were passed by the British Parliament.The four acts were to close all ports until the citizens payed all the money back for the Tea Act.The second Act was the Quartering Act which made colonists house British troops, and also feed and provide them with other supplies if needed.The third required town meetings. The fourth was electing the Governor, because this act took away self government.

    This event took place on May 10,1775 in Philadelphia. The Congress at first was divided about what to do. Delegates from New England wanted to declare independence. Although, A group from the middle colonies favored less drastic action.However, all delegates felt they needed to prepare for war. So they formed a army and made George Washington commander.They printed money to pay for the army. The Second Continental Congress was starting to act like a government.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The first resolution was called the Olive Branch Petition and was sent to King George. The petition stated that the colonists were loyal to the king. Its asked that king George would stop fighting so all disputes between the colonists and Britain could be solved peacefully.The petition was named after the Olive Branch, a symbol of peace since ancient times.
