This is a court case of Dred Scott, who was an enslaved African American who was taken to Illinois, a free-state, by his owners and then back to Missouri, a slave state. Dred Scott took this as an opportunity to appeal for his freedom by going to court saying that he was a free man when he stepped foot into Illinois. this however led to him being told that the Us Constitution wasn't meant for African Americans.
