    Indentured servitude was a way for people to move across the Atlantic into the new world. All they had to do to get a fare share of land and some money was work seven years for an employer. The main people who did this were poor British immigrants.

    Slave codes were passed. Slave codes were laws in each state that defined the slaves' standings and masters' rights. These codes gave slave owners absolute power over slaves. Slave codes placed harsh restrictions on the freedom of African slaves; these laws generally stated that they were regarded as, and could be treated like, property.
