    A Proclamation passed by George III forbidding settlement west of the Appalachian Mountians on Native American land.

    This Act taxed all printed materials in the colonies and this is one of the Acts the colonist were most angry with.

    A secret society founded by Samuel Adams to protect the rights of the colonists. Often used violence to get colonists to join the cause.

    The first meeting of the colonies to consider protesting the policies of the British Government.

    While protests continued in the colonies Britain sent more troops to the colonies. One day a group of British soldiers fired upon an angry mob and killed 5 unarmed civilliains.

    After the Tea act was passed the colonists became outraged with the taxes on tea. As 3 ships full of tea entered the Boston Harbor the Sons of Liberty disguised as Indians went aboard and dumped all the tea into the harbor.

    The British passed the Coercive Acts to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. One part of this Act was that any soldier in the colonies could take refuge at anybodys house. The colonists started to call these The Intolerable Acts.

    The first meeting of the Contenintal Congress were deligates from 12 of the colonies met. They met to decide whether to repeal the acts or not. They decided to repeal them and told colonist to store weapans and ammunition "just in case" things went bad.

    The second Continental Congress met. They set up a mail system through the colonies and came forth with the Olive Branch Petition. A petition stating the colonies loyalty to King George III hoping to avoid a full out war.

    George Washington journied to Boston to arrange the militia. He did so and was able to suprise the British with the heavy cannons brought from Fort Ticonderoga and force the British out of Boston.
